  1. I can imagine Semras response they were returned for a refund due to misleading images! Some chance?
  2. I got this 1926ME in the March auction. Compare the enhanced LCA images with mine taken in natural daylight. I find it disappointing that my photos are a much better representation of what it's really like in hand. Another reason to turn up on the day and not bid on web illustrations I suppose.
  3. And my 1920 for comparison with other previously illustrated.
  4. This one's different again......
  5. Where are you in the States? And what's your ebay name?
  6. Slightly over-graded http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Grade-1861-Queen-Victoria-One-Penny-1d-Bronze-British-Coin-/151333194382?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item233c294a8e
  7. Azda is right.....they are just not good enough.....they can't take the pressure of expectancy......and until the Prem cuts back on foreign imports nothing will change. We can't have both - exciting, multi-cultural Premiership teams as well as a good England team. Poor old Gerrard. His mistake tripping over the ball let in Demba Ba which cost Liverpool the title and now he heads on for Suarez to score the winning goal. You couldn't make it up!
  8. These Yanks crease me up sometimes........ http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sale-British-Coin-George-V-Penny-1933-one-and-one-fourth-inch-31mm-/251563564147?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3a925b5c73
  9. Should I get any you'll get first refusal Bob Does anyone think it's worth more...... in that condition? Put your hand up if you'd pay more. B&CC might be open ('scuse the pun) to offers.
  10. You'll be lucky.......that's a £50/$75 open 3 IMO.....
  11. I find a lot of sellers in the US won't "ship" overseas.......and as you say, it seems daft not offering a coin to buyers in that country when it's there it's likely to acheive the highest price. It's the same trip to the post office but just with a bit more effort labeling I suppose. Must be too difficult for them. Another thing which gets me annoyed about US sellers......their descriptions. Maybe Bob could explain it? For example with pennies.....what's the obsession with "Britannia seated right" (you don't say!). And often, repeating the whole obverse legend like it's something to impress a prospective buyer, like "Georgivs V Dei Gra Britt Omn Rex Fid Def IND IMP : ONE PENNY Great Shape". Round, maybe?! Just scrap most of the time anyway. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111359159662&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160 http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREAT-BRITAIN-1-PENNY-1912-F-KING-GEORGE-V-FACING-LEFT-BRITANNIA-SEATED-RIGHT-/390833224223?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item5aff79ba1f
  12. Another example of "if it looks too good to be true....."
  13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1906-PENNY-/221429592379?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=p8177%252BUyGd4szQ2vUVs4PO3S%252B7k%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc The seller says (quote-copied & pasted, spelling mistakes 'n all), "I would point out that this coin came from an old collection from Collin cook, and were sold as B.U.coins by him. I have sold the hole collection with no complaints and thy all looked the same".
  14. I'm in the US at the moment.
  15. It's really difficult buying from Ebay photos. I've been looking for a bargain 1906 penny and just had to ask to return one purchased on Ebay because to me it had been polished.......even though the vendor reckons he bought it from Colin Cook as BU. This is another one I'm considering. Is it me or does this look polished? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131190608502?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  16. That's what made me suspicious Matt.....the swarf over the rim edge. Aren't the beads a bit flat though on the obverse - what's that about?
  17. Lot 1171 in the next LC auction Is it me or has this seen a grinder around the rim? http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=cat&l=1171&f=o&s=l
  18. There's just something about pennies - they have so much character. When I was a kid in the 60's I went through my mothers purse every night when she came home from work to look for dates to complete my run.........with her permission of course! Then later when I discovered the opposite sex and had to sell everything I had to raise a deposit for a mortgage.....inclcuding my penny collection - which actually although date complete from 1895 wasn't that good grade-wise. It's taken until many years later to get enough disposable income to get back into it again. But at least I can afford to buy better grades now
  19. You have to be really careful with (often so called) errors like this as they are so easily manufactured to deceive post mint. As Matt says, if the beads and/or lettering fade towards the cut edge it's a good sign of a genuine error. But I've seen straight clips like Jims that have vertical striations down the clipped edge which is a dead giveaway for a grinder causing the "error". I had two straight cut halfpennies once which when carefully examined still had remains of swarf on the edge.
  20. I once called and asked her to bring a 2K coin to view at Wakefield.......when I got there she'd forgotten about it - no apology, didn't care, wasn't bothered. I was dismissed by being ignored as she then started talking to another poor sod of a potential customer.
  21. You now might appreciate why I refer to her as Semra Cretin ....... she's just a horrible person to deal with, treating customers with so much disrespect. Not that my name for her is respectful of course - but they say respect is earned.
  22. Patience isn't one of my better atributes.....my problem is keeping track of which auctions are coming up. A diary page on the forum would be really useful.
  23. It's here.... http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&searchterm=1919+KN+penny&searchtype=1 I can't have been the under bidder either at £2250 so there's certainly a demand. The £3250 example has been on offer for about 2 years to my knowledge but it was on there at £3K when I first saw it. A year ago I sent an offer to Ms Cretin of £2.5K which was refused and they immediately increased it to £3250 !!
  24. I'll answer my own post then..... .......reason I ask is I bid £2250 on the 1919KN (at the £1-2K estimate I think it was) and thought I was sure to get it. When I last mentioned the LC example on offer at £3250 in another thread, most thought it well over priced......so is this the way prices are going for top grade pennies?
  25. What's the thoughts on the £2808.00 (including commssion) that the1919KN penny sold for? Comparing and considering the condition of that one (Lot 1887 ) I'm wondering now if it makes their "1 of 8 finest known" on offer at £3250 a reasonable buy.....?
