For me I got a bit tired of halfpennies, pennies florins..that all looked the same..and was drawn to the brilliant and diverse english world. From celtic to George V and everything in between.

Yes it's mine. I used to have a really big australian coin collection starting from the ripe old age of 12. Then over 35 years moved to really really old australian coins- namely english coins. Love the monarchs. The collection has now gone from 200 to about 20 coins. So quality improved somewhat.

I'm trying to find out the relative rarity of the 1551-53 Edward VI Crowns. Coin crafts 1999 standard Catalogue for example says that a 1551 Crown tun mintmark is extremely rare. True? Also I keep seeing references to Lingfords 1950 sale that list the varieties of theses beautiful crowns and presumably the relative rarities of each.. Any help?

Oh yes I guess. I can't imagine the frustration after researching and preparation a coin you like, then missing because of technical faults. Shocker!

I placed some pre auction bids on some common but interesting coins and won the CH II ducaton.... Nothing that needed live bidding...

What coin would you keep from your collection if you were only allowed one choice?

My sense of is that consignors are being given improved (lower) commissions these days because of the competitive coin auction market fishing for quality stock. this is magnified becauset just about all auction houses are accessible from the touch of a screen. So to balance this, buyers are paying the penalty...

James Neither. The laurel is softly struck and reasonably worn. The unite looks shiny through rubbing probably ex mount. As these are at first exciting to view, they are reasonably common and come up for auction regularly. Keep looking! Would be my strong suggestion. Look for an original coin, not cleaned, not too worn and a strong full portrait. Must be at least Good VF. Unlike eBay, the established coin auction houses like spink, DNW, Baldwins, StJames, London coins will usually let you know about ex mount or some other problem and grade that you can trust without viewing in person. In the days prior to having kids I used to buy now and then what I would perceive as a good investment coin either from spink or one of the us auction houses.. One of these was an 1860 copper halfpenny. Now I'm not sure what do with it. It doesn't fit into my central collection of Charles 1 group. . It seems a bit specialised for the general market and fear I will lose in this process. I guess I would like to know this coins rarity, the current halfpenny market interest level and any other info about it to help decide... Any info iis great, if I recall Peck is vague and mentions a few possible denominations. To me it's a sixpence and like you stated, resembles the pledge penny.
