  1. Brilliant. Thanks very much.
  2. Just started this E Bay malarkey. I have a question...do I include Worldwide to post to, or keep it in the U.K.? Any other advice would be grateful. Thanks.
  3. Sage advice as usual on this forum. Thanks.
  4. Had this up from the river today. Is it worth putting on e bay? What price should I aim for?
  5. No wonder I couldn't find it. Thought that was a ridiculous price, It was a 1789 Kempson Penny..£6,960 at the D.N.W auction.
  6. Trying to find out a bit more about this extraordinary Penny Token. Sold at auction for around £18,000. Can anyone help?. Basically looking for a picture. Thanks.
  7. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/In-memory-of-the-good-old-days-Five-antique-brass-tokens-dated-1788-/321030482716?pt=UK_Coins_Tokens_RL&hash=item4abee86b1c Why would you bother with that? Unless you're hiding something
  8. Picked up another Aethelred recently from the Thames. I.D. from Martin Allen of the Fitzwilliam. "This is a coin of the Hereford moneyer Lufumar, who is only known in this type, Æthelred II's Last Small Cross type (c.1009-16). There is another coin from this pair of dies in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg (SCBI 50, 1201), and the reverse die has the unsusual reading +LVMARH ON HERE. 'Lumarh' (as on this coin) and 'Lufumar' seem to be versions of the name Leofmaer." Anyone put a rough idea of the valuation of this penny? The Lizzie was found a few days later. The coin is much better "in hand", I just cant get a good picture.
  9. Going today in auction. £30 - £50. Bargain. East Bristol Auctions.
  10. I meant to put this in the e-bay thread
  11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/seventeenth-century-london-traders-token-AT-THE-3-TUNNS-ON-TOWER-WHARF-GDM-/180926801370?pt=UK_Coins_Tokens_RL&hash=item2a2013e5da&autorefresh=true#ht_500wt_1182 You would have thought the seller would have at least given it a little clean!
  12. £2,400, right on the estimate.
  13. I'm not 100% clear from your description, but the shilling never had a rose? I may have misinterpreted your post? Quite right! I meant to say I checked my sixpence.
  14. Just checked my Elizabeth shilling. Where the cross is scratched in on the coin above mine has the Tudor rose. The cross on my coin is in front of Liz's face with the cross just hitting her nose.
  15. Secret dealers...........We KNOW your secrets Peter I've got a bath full of Baked beans and mushy peas to dive into later...Mrs Peter is on a leash. You're Roger Daltrey in disguise? WHO? My wife comes from the family Moon.I have a picture of one of the Moons who recently died, in his sixties. The picture was taken in his 20's, it's uncanny. You would say it was Keith.
  16. I can tell you that in 1690, it cost a farthing to be rowed across the Thames in London.
  17. "In 1645-6, during the English Civil Wars, three royalist fortresses under siege produced coinage. When Carlisle was surrounded by a Scottish army, coinage worth £323 was produced. A 17-year-old resident, Leslie Tullie, recorded in his diary that 'an order was published to every citizen to bring in their plate [i.e. silverware] to be coyned, which they did chearfully'. Tullie's mother gave five spoons which weighed 6¼ oz of silver. Overall, 1,162 oz of silver was gathered on that occasion, producing £280 of coin." Chearfully....Under siege, handing your fortune in, and doing it with a smile on your face! They were made of sterner stuff in those days p.s. What is the Carey commission please Rob.

  19. I 'get' the rarity value of coins, but I fail to see the pull of this one. Estimated at auction at £30,000-£35,000, it sold for £58,000. Would you, if you could, be happy to look at this and pay that amount?
  20. My mistake...I meant Halfpenny
  21. No, your right it doesn't. I read about it in an auction catalogue. Quite long winded, but basically A person at the Royal Mint took a gold blank into work and ran a one off coin on the half penny dies. Not sure how the seller got the coin, but the Bank of England said it was off the farthing run but knew no more than that. All very curious. Sold in March this year.
  22. I went to pageant very early Sunday morning. I had one my brothers high vis jackets on he'd given me. Waterproof and very snug. I walked onto Lambeth bridge without being searched. I was on the bridge for a few minutes when approached by a very high ranking police officer. He said " I am lead to believe you are the bridge commander!" No I said, I'm just a bloke in a high vis jacket. Police Officer "Where is the bridge commander then?" Me "I have know idea" Very odd day. Got stopped by members of the public for directions and were could they stand. All because of a new brightly coloured jacket!
  23. Just reading about the 1960 Elizabeth 22ct gold halfpenny. What a strange thing. £2,000 to £3,000 in auction, sold for £6,000. Bizarre!
