  1. Like many of his novels, Charles Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities was actually first serialised in two local newspapers. It was the Bicester Times, it was the Worcester Times.
  2. A politician visited a remote little rural village and asked the inhabitants what the government could do for them. “We have two big needs,” said the village headman. “First, we have a hospital but no doctor." The politician whipped out his mobile, spoke for a while and then said: “I have sorted it out. A doctor will arrive here tomorrow. What is your other need?” “We have no mobile reception at all in our village.”
  3. My mate keeps saying "Cheer up, it could be worse, you could be stuck underground in a hole full of water!" He means well.
  4. Yes indeed it is a cloak. I always presumed it was a pin/brooch type fastener. The streamers coming down the back of the neck were held by a fillet that went around the head. by the way Lara Maikem a Thames mudlark has a book out at the moment. Radio 4 and the Sunday Times have had it as the book of the month.
  5. The inventor of tongue twisters was found guilty of fraud today. He is expected to get a tough sentence.
  6. #16,490 A pirate walks into a bar. He's got the whole pirate look down. He's got the peg leg, the hook hand, an eyepatch and the hat all going on. The bartender takes all of this in, impressed. There's just one odd thing and he just has to ask. "So Mr. Pirate, your look is pretty cool. I gotta ask though, what's with the chocolate wrapper on your hat?" The pirate replied, "Arrrrgh, I've a Bounty on me head!
  7. Certainly agree with what you say. Thanks Rob.
  8. Struggling a bit with the read on this one. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Another Aethelred off of the same spot, I kid you not. small cross
  10. A bit of a strange day today! First I found a cap full of coins, then I got chased up the road with a bloke with a guitar
  11. This was four foot from the last Aethelred. 3 Aethelreds have come up from an 8 foot radius. Potin.
  12. What a great post. Some people would look at that as just a coin. Social history in a nutshell!
  13. Funny though. I started to look at the Swedish takeover of Latvia and the locals quite enjoyed what the Swedes brought to them. So much so they have a current 10,000 signature protest going on asking them to invade again.😃 Not so sure about some of the signer's. Barack Obama has put his weight behind them!
  14. Cheers people. I think you're spot on Paddy!
  15. Odd find really. I was emptying some rubbish into a skip..and this was on the floor next to it. I think some sort of token? Any help out there?
  16. I can certainly see your point Peter. The rarity and the crudity of the coin makes it appealing to me. I don't like it nearly £60,000 though.
  17. £57,600. That's special.
  18. This person is selling jewellery in Park Lane, not getting many good reviews either. Sounds like an absolute wrong'un
  19. Have you got any photo's of it?
  20. Only just seen this reply...thanks!
  21. I just had thought, how much would it cost to have a fair(ish) coin of every Monarch since 1066, to say...up to William and Mary? Any figures available out there?
