  1. Yes and my boys think the half penny to be "old"!
  2. In your dreams... I was kind of hoping that if we started on food (and now sex) we would end up on coins
  3. And what about an unrecorded die number...
  4. This is fun here Looks like they have missed off the Welsh one pound leek reverse and this ? - bunch of carrots?
  5. Thanks chaps for your replies. So there could be the potential to publish the first definitive study (and high grade collection) on die numbers and rarities for someone out there then! I wouldn’t have any interest in this myself, however given that some collectors collect what would be considered to be minute and often hard to distinguish variety changes, I am surprised that it hasn’t happen yet. I do find die numbers useful for helping identifying the various reverses as shown in Davies mind!
  6. I often see Victorian shillings listed as having “rare†die numbers. How is this known? Are there recordings of the numbers of die numbers produced for each year somewhere? Does the rarity of a number have much effect on the value or is this just another Ebay hype?
  7. Is there any significance to the direction in which Britannia faces?
  8. Oh yes and thank you to all of you who keep pointing engraved coins out to me too!
  9. Sigh.... merandering threads which always seem to end up with comments on food, sex, cars or drugs.....
  10. Peck, I think you need to go and stand in the "confused " corner with Richard
  11. Debbie

    Mules?

I think that coin collecting could prove a quite tricky - I have trouble understanding all the said reverse combinations, and I don't have dyslexia!
  12. Also Paul Ross is hardly iconic sex symbol fodder (hence the taking the michael reviews) I also love the fact that on the link to the actual canvas it shows that people who actually bought the item also bought “Fifty Shades of Grey†deduce what you will (you probably do need to be female to appreciate that one)
  13. I wonder when Amazon are going to start offering ex-circuated post war currency ? .....perhaps we could all write a few choice reviews then!
  14. Well of course it is Rob!......... Er did you read the reviews?
  15. Wow three threads started by ladies in the Beginners forum thread - must be a first for the forum ? So here's something us ladies might appreciate - read the reviews, made me smile. here Must have been a male designer.
  16. Er well yes I was sort of including the lady who I replied to a while ago who had just lost her father and needed help in sorting out his coin collection...but we haven't heard from her in a while, so you may be right after all!
  17. Hi Nicky, welcome to the forum. Yes you may be increasing the (known ) female population by 50%! Everyone's very friendly and helpful here. I'm sure you will learn lots and good luck with finding those coins. I would recommend the check your change by the way!
  18. Thanks Rob another interesting thing to consider and I see that Davies notes that there may have been some struck in 1830 (anyone got one? ). Actually I think that angled photo may have been stretched slightly and I notice that the lettering is double struck in places. Must stop giving myself headaches from staring at coins for long periods of time!
  19. Afternoon all. Here are two pictures of two 1834 shillings ( both presently on ebay) – do you think that they look different to you? I realise one is a far better grade and seems to photographed at a slight angle, but the hair at the top, the shape of the forehead and the shape of the ear look different to me. Were there two different portraits for that year? Perhaps its just me
  20. Oh nice finds, that must be exciting when you discover something Colin.I wonder if the hobby become a little more popular after that fascinating series on TV a few months ago - Hidden treasure? Where were they found? Do you have to ask permission to use a detector or join a club? And what do you do with your finds, do you have to register them somewhere? Having said all this I am sure I wouldn't have the patience myself to have a go!
  21. Mmmm I'm sure that there's something that looks like a shampoo bottle - no wait it could be a light house.....
  22. I thought it looked like he was having a secret laugh!
  23. Think these are the same? Sorry not much help as I don't know currency CHF is! here
  24. Not a bad return eh? this to to this I think the word "trench art" must be magic
  25. Mmm definately needs a nice engraving on that!
