This Gothic 1847 in DNW made £5500.00 Septemeber 2012 and I think its got less marks than the Ebay one and looks more natural to me

I saw a Royal Mail warning a while back saying,if you send an item worth over £2500.00 by special delivery they threaten to sue you for putting post office staff at risk . The large auctions and bullion dealers send out large sums by Royal Mail and I presume insure the packets privately, but I wonder if they know its illegal according to Royal Mail.

Lovely Photo Colin has found, BUT as pies says its scary. It has a pretty pleasant tone, and looks very desirable. The question has to be " what else is out there " and maybe the next one wont have the twisted "I". They ( I presume the Chinese ) have produced superb Gothic Crowns, the Gothic Florins and who knows what else . Coin collecting is becoming very worrying . Some will says there are telltale signs , but until several Coins of a certain date start to show up , very many collectors will get caught out along the way.

and ....DNW has a new Website with nice quality large Photos ,London Coins has great photos, Spinks photos are lousy in my opinion,and the worst of all the major Auction houses and all the others have great photos on the " sixbid " site where their Auctions are hosted , thats were I always look if I want to see the finer detail of a Coin.

St James is offering 0% Commission on items over £1000.00 and as others mentioned DNW will reply, I have found Spinks are unlikely to reply and when prompted after over a month , would not indicate any approximate values or costs involved .I have found Baldwins were pretty cagey and avoided even mentioning the two rarest Coins I sent them photos of ,that were certainly worth £3000.00 and £5000.00 and would not mention costs. One important thing is the get in writing a " NO sale no Fee" agreement . Thats the only thing I've ever got in trouble over even though it was verbally agreed and I had sold items with them several times. I had to pay a packet to get my items back which took almost a month and then I had to threaten legal action to get the charges back. That Auction house no longer has Coin and Medal Auctions.

I have NEVER heard of the BNTA ever taking up with Ebay the question of Fakes, Never read anything in Coin News either, yet in USA Ebay has been taken to task by the US Mint, the US Secret Service, and Coin World, and now you are not even allowed to grade ( as far as I know )a Coin on Ebay.com, unless it is slabbed by one of the top slabbers, In the 1970's several Coin dealers were jailed for the racket in Fake 1887 £5 pieces and other coins that they bought in in tubes of 25 or 50 at a time from Beirut. They were convicted even though they told the buyers at the first point of sale exactely what the coins were. Yet now a Top London Auction sells those Beirut Fakes as "Jewellers Copies or Top Quality copies)The latest two were sold as recent as March 2013. Perhaps its now okay to sell these Fakes in the UK ?? . Dealers I know who had them come in sent them straight in as scrap as they thought they were illegal to sell, but maybe this is no longer the case in the UK.

I was watching Mohur Prices as someone overseas was very interested. I had not seen any before looking so crisp, but when enlarged had numerous marks and pits, suppose from the original they used , presume making new dies that showed all the same marks as the original.Then the " Laura " name showed up which figured strongly in the early 1763 Shilling reports. Ebay obviously are very happy with all the fakes from China as I know they have been informed many times through the years and do nothing at all , as all the same old names are still at it. It would be good if some data base of fakes was set up as it seems to me the BNTA and the top dealers and Auctions try at keep it quite and " in house " about all the fakes that are swamping the collector market. Seems their excuse is if knowledge gets public the fakers will know what to do to make their fakes better but I cannot accept that notion.

Just noticed a couple of these sold by " Laura_5268 " (Hongkong) she can get you Gothic Crowns and Northumberland Shillings by the score and " ashdei " (China) Dont know whats hes had but hes got a high Ebay score of 972 and his favorite buyer in USA W2cti keeps giving feedback of " Loving it " Whats he loving buying from China !! I bet they could turn up some nice Una and the Lion five Pounds ? Coin picture India Mohur 1841 (they are in great demand these days)

I keep on studying " Broads " and after " Rod " saying the scratches on the "Roddy 42.5K Broad" might be on the Die, ive been looking in more detail and wonder of the " Roddy Broad " is a later Restrike.... Broken " Q " on Reverse, " H " in Hib tipping over, Strange " E " in ET and " A " in Pax. Seems to me there is numerous strange letters in the 42.5K one and weaknesses on the upper quarters of the Reverse Sheild.

Yes its the DNW coin , they say it NEF which is really OTT !! but maybe I will try a bid based more on the VF value. It seems many including the top Auctions and many BNTA Members are really pushing grading to the limits you would really expect in Ebay !! Many of the high end Dealers are extremely inconsistant on their grading standards recently , EF "USED" to be close to mint

Hello the DNW Sold at 15K so 24% more with the premium. The 42.5K one is Roddys, and looking at it on his site I would say the scratches have been put on after it was struck and the cleaning has removed a lot of the toning in the fields ? I see what you mean about the 8K start one, it falls in second best I suppose

Photo 3 the DNW 15K Broad

I saw one coming up in Auction described as GVF with 8K Start which is tempting to have a bid at One recently sold in DNW at 15K GEF Brilliant Large BNTA Dealer has one 42.5K Virtually Mint Grading on the first two is very fair, but the BNTA Dealers Broad I rate at GVF but badly cleaned, with abrasions all over the surface. If enlarged it looks sand papered Takes some working out ? Is the BNTA Dealer taking the P*** I wonder or have I missed something All are Spink 3225.. If the buyer of the 42.5 K Broad ever come to sell it he will be well and truly stuffed Photo 1 is 42.5K.....Photo 2 is 8K start in Auction ....Photo 3 (next page) is the 15K one

Thanks everyone, it really seems best to forget selling in the UK and head the NGC / Heritage way (Though I always say I hate slabs thats where the top prices seem to be , so my mind is changing fast, as slabs seem to be the ONLY way to sell in the US at top dollar)

Thanks Nicholas, Ive sent PM...I wondered about the dreaded slabs...Most Coins Ive seen fetching top prices in the US Auctions have been slabbed and with very fanciful grading (By UK proper standards) and their UNCs can have quite a bit of wear and knocks and scratches etc and normally no mention is made of obvious faults.

Must say I've tried to get advise on a suitable auction and selling costs for some rare Foreign Coins and got pretty well nowhere...Baldwins just answered very evasively saying " you must bring them in " and avoided all mention of the two rarest ones which I am very sure would fetch 5K and 3K plus in their auctions. Spinks normally just ignor completely any emails and photos sent. Has anyone got good advice from any other Auction Houses in the UK or the US ones. I know Stacks Ponterio got well over 5K UK pounds for one of my Coins (mines far better)and all I have would do well with them or Heritage I'm sure , but has anyone got experience of the logistics of sending to the US, and if there is import taxes etc if sent to the US for Auction ? thanks

Just got to the site, and its absolutely useless, many months out of date and a waste of time, all links on it are out of date. I thought the Buyers wallet snatch price they all charge was for a service to the buyer , but instead they all double (at least ) the cost of posting anything, give just about no guarantee, and no help to the buyer and even less to the seller .

I ways struggle with these late non frosted proofs. The Reverse would surely pass for a currency coin ? I just found this Florin, which if 1927 dated would not be questioned to be a Proof, but it seems a much better striking that I normally find of this period.
