In my watch list At least once a week I check ebay using these search words: contemporary,Counterfeit,forged,forgery,fake,evasive,evasion,imitation,nonregal,"non regal",copies,copy,replica,pattern,exonumia,tiffen,tiffin,george iii,george 3rd,georgius + all the years 1804-1820 etc. - It stirs up loads of crap plus a few interesting items Pah! I'd love a closer look at some good images when it turns up! Got it That's quite a structure, very pretty actually, I wonder if we can get it a Spink equivalent? Maybe even the Sharp reference as I'm thinking it could be a shilling! Isn't that the cross of a crown at the C In Charlie? That should limit the bust type straight away if it is! Weight 10.0 gr - 32.7 mm. = Spink 3321 Bought this one a few weeks ago - different dies however not the best example... Crikes, that's a chunky old weight for a clipped coin!

Given the unprecedented applause for the coin, I thought a bit of tongue-in-cheek opposition would easily be spotted at such! Does this mean you're in agreement regarding the rust showing through the plate then?

I'd be a little kinder and say the reverse is fine. The obverse is poor/near fine (I'm wondering whether that's a weak strike, which is holding me back). However I take it down a notch for that aweful patchy tone (I would've shied away from buying it altogether with that 'tone,' on account I've previously had a couple with this 'patchiness' which weren't right)! Lovely round flan though!

It's true. Those that do their homework don't tend to spend vast sums of money on eBay. Both with massive feedback so, in the absence of seeing anything cheap on their sites, who's laughing? Not at my expense fortunately! I'm now 'Watching' that 1946 3d. If we all do that for a range of his coins, he will be filled with false hope of imminent sales, only for hand-rubbing to be replaced by hand-wringing when none materialise. :D Cripes, get you and John together!

I'd try a Single Malt for removing residue, one for me, one for the tomb, twice the more for me, only once for the plastic tomb. I couldn't possible waste good whiskey on an old slab!

That's a pretty nasty ding on the rim at I in GEORGIUS, and what appears to be a bit of rust breaking through the copper-plate at the 7 in date.

Not if you've knackered it with acetone it doesn't! I've been watching this coin for a while, just to see what happens! I'd say 200% though (of course I do have some...I think it's worth £100 at least! )

Not quite as convincing in macro, but worth seeing if you're going for a chancy snap on the 'Bay!

There is a product on the market for removing the opacity from the plastic windows on car soft tops - http://www.renovointernational.com/products/plastic-polish.php. The bad news is, I had some and threw it away after a general clear out of my garage a few months ago. The even worse news is, it didn't seem to work anyway. I always use white spirit for removing sellotape residue. Many thanks for that, I'll have a proper surf around that one tomorrow, maybe a better starting place than T-Cut! A shame there's not a colour restorer for the hologram!

I'm going to see whether jewellers rose can bring the surface back to life (may even give T-cut a trial on an Acetoned CD cover), the opaqueness can only be microns deep! I'm not quite as bothered about the HOLOGRAM as it's still obviously their hologram, and the online images match clearly, but it would be good to see the coin at least!

I know what you mean but, whether we like it or not, it would likely sell so much better, having been graded by a 'true numismatic professional ' (acetone disaster aside)!
