  1. And here, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a revolting new issue! I think most sane persons will agree that the first, older one has more about it than this......
  2. Ok attached is an old certificate - beautiful isn't it? There are far nicer ones but this was the best I could find. P.S I put the Vigo one up for obvious reasons
  3. No, we collect coins not banknotes. Take out a book from your library, that's what I did with my banknotes
  4. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
  5. Pfff it's vigilantism - very presumptuous indeed.
  6. Wow what luck! I didn't think a jeweller's would sell it for so little - fools!
  7. I collect them for both profit and fun. I hope one day that my more expensive coins will prove a sound investment for the future
  8. One might say you pulled the plug prematurely
  9. First, master J.M.D, you must understand about the stock market. Unlike commemorative coins from the mint today, where zillions are made, this rule does not always apply to Stocks. It depends on how much the company wants to issue i.e. How much capital to raise. So if they wanted to start a company and they needed £10,000 (hypothetically), they could issue two stocks of £5000, 10 stocks of £1000 etc. So it doesn't always apply that there are many certificates out there. Anyway, I wouldn't collect modern because they are revolting compared to the older ones.
  10. I just googled "Why does gold tone?" and got loads of results about banjos
  11. Oooh the mystery! My best buy would be an 1820 Half crown. Bought for £80, it is worth £225 in EF I'd grade mine AEF so £185?? - the wonders of ebay!
  12. hehehe @ Master J.M.D, I destoryed France with nuclear weapons and now the fallout is blowing over to the Leipzig area to infect chris But german seaside resorts, really? fat german men in lederhosen eating sausage (i know its a stereotype but hey!)
  13. Of course. Many people have the Krause books - would you recommend buying one? The price seems a bit steep
  14. I'm going to be a nit--pick here (again, yes william ) and say that the Millennium wasn't 2000, it was 2001
  15. ...but much nicer than just a plain old frank from a franking machine, wouldn't you agree?
  16. Ditto, as we said in another thread, it could be of great historical significance so if it isn't reported, there's a hole in our history there
  17. It is now "Alea iacta est" and a mountain of gold to anyone who can guess what that means
  18. hahahaha touche, geoff, touche. And it's Emperor Oli I have my own little bastion of hell where the red "x" is.........
  19. I agree but........if one buys the reproductions, they normally have the makers mark on them, whether stamped or engraved. I wish they found another method of showing it was a repro than that but I can't think of one off the top of my head.
  20. Finally! Now the member list is actually navigable (is that a word? i mean that one can navigate through it easily )
  21. That looks very similar to the Peter Nichol's one. I'd have a hard time trying to fill it, though!
  22. Elizabeth i spelt with a "z" rather than an "s" Master J.M.D
