  1. The guy seems to know ewhat he's talking about plus it isn't recorded in any of my books. It's far too much for a George VI crown though imho!
  2. The Queen Anne one is quite nice (the one with least rainbow!) and that toning brings it out perfectly however once the rainbow effect comes in it's revolting
  3. there is no lustre on that coin. Its worn too so even if it had lustre it wouldn't be worth much
  4. Quite frankly, my dear Sylvester, I am. I've been arguing all day, it doesn't make sense to stop now!
  5. Oh I love mass debating but I love having a good old MACE debate more (2 vs. 2)!
  6. They are vulgar! Rainbow toning like that isn't natural, as Sylvester said, they don't store them right. We Brits would probably get "wonderful" toning like that if we stored them the way they do, but we have sense so we don't!
  7. Can you attach a picture of the 1806 lustrous farthing, as I'd really love to see it?
  8. Heyho chums.I've just got back from debating at ummmmm about 22:00 and what a day it was, I can tell you! We registered at 9:30 ish and the first debate was announced sometime after and it was "This House would legalise all drugs". We debated that one in the President's office which was strewen with bottles of whisky and Pimms. We were opposing that and came first in it (against Eton and Bromsgrove hehe). Then the next one was "This house would remove parents' rights to remove their child from sex education". We debated that on the landing (!) outside the President's office. We were opposing that too but we came 4th . Anyhoo, after that, the next was "This House would introduce racial quotas for police recruitment" and were proposing. That was debated in the TV room. We stormed through that and came first (beating St. Pauls and Westminster) but, alas, we didn't have enough points to advance to the semis, however, we are ranked in the top-ten debating teams in the country! Unfortunately I didn't get to see the Morris Room which was handpainted by William Morris but never mind!
  9. Hmm the legend looks clear, I think it's just a normal strike which has been in circulation or been thrown about a bit!
  10. I thought you didn't collect stuff like that?!
  11. I don't think Sylvester's buying it for collector value though, more as eye candy
  12. Yes, it's not necessary to state what everybody knows or doesn't know grrr
  13. Spamming. The rules lie in tatters now...
  14. Eugh, those rainbow coins are awful. Why are they all American?!
  15. It's so bright it could almost be a re-strike! Very pleasing to the eye although its collector value is somewhat limited
  16. It's the hybrid son of traditional squiggle who has both loop and flick!
  17. There will be books on how to write it but the point of it is speed - having a dictionary would hamper it.
  18. Each to their own, PM, each to their own
  19. No, you couldn't. The people who actually write this studied it at schools for years.
  20. I bet the death rate is high among bus spotters - being run down all the time and all
  21. Like cleaners are called Hygieine Technicians/Engineers/Supervisors/Officers
  22. Shorthand is what secretaries used to (some still do) write. They used it when their Superior was dictating a letter or a memo. All it is is squiggles etc which represent the sounds of the words. It is remarkably quick and quite easy to decipher - or so I've been told
  23. I wouldn't leave 10secs - the Ebay server is very fickle with me at any rate "Re-enter" this "Press" blah blah blah.
  24. No, Penny Master, sniping ain't a person, it's a thing you do, particularly if you have a broadband connection. About 45-60secs before the end of the auction, put your bid in (snipe) and hopefully the previous bidder won't have time to place a higher one et voila! The coin is yours (this practice is frowned upon by many and I hate it when i'm caught out by sniping but it's a good way to win auctions).
