  1. But they only charge £100 for a £100 coin and it comes with free packaging. BARGAIN! I hope Osborn isn't a member here, giving him the idea of a "commemorative tax" on budget day! The mint are charged with making a profit but for the business to be stable this should come from its currency production not one off's like commemoratives or the millions it is currently making from copper & nickle recycling, very short term vision.
  2. Might need a trip to the bank on Saturday for some bags of 50ps Fingers crossed.
  3. Fleabay seem to be selling them between £10 -£15 but not in great condition, it would be so helpful to know which branches / sizes were the scarcer. There also seems to be a number of examples counter stamped with a letter and I have not seen any explanation as to why these tokens were counter stamped. Ian..
  4. Not great quality, but a friend got me interested in these , so picked these up on eBay. Does anybody know if there is a published list of these token's type and varieties? Would love one of these as it is local to me, Bet @bhx7 would too?
  5. Did you check your edges too?
  6. Does this help?
  7. I love early coins, but my knowledge is limited and my spending power is far short of the beautiful coins you have posted pictures of. Ian..
  8. It should only sell at your max book bid, if there are two book bids for the same amount, or one increment between them. Ie the book bids have bid against each other to their max.
  9. Seems, the mint are doing something right for collectors if not numismatists! Or after a stream of errors, are people speculating on the mint making another error?
  10. Quite a range of colours. Also, there seems to be a break in the zero, that should get the variety boys excited Ian..
  11. They sell circulating pieces for more than face value all of the time, just look at the commemorative 50p & £2 coins. They are not going to sell a specific error as an error coin, but does the frequency of them having errors / unique varieties keep people buying the next grossly overpriced proof set just in case they bag themselves a variety? From the latest RM Bulletin. "The 2016 United Kingdom Silver Proof Coin Set... This is the only way to own the £1 bearing Matthew Dent's shield of the Royal Arms design, dated 2016 and struck in precious metal... Price £595.00" So they do have an eye for varieties, and it will cost you six hundred quid if you want a silver £1. Thread envy is a terrible thing Nordle
  12. How can RM produce so many errors and mules? Have they just got a big box of dies and some idiot rummaging around in it looking for two that are about the same size?
  13. I'm hopeless at grading, but looks a beautiful coin for its age with just a bit of wear.
  14. @Chris Perkins Thank you so much for the info, I haven't seen any info on the £2 with the wrong edge lettering, as an aside does that class as a mule? I'll be buying your 2016 book as soon as it is out Chris There also seems to be anomalies in the numbering in spinks, numbering pre and post 2015 for some coins, it looks as if they got some references wrong/changed when they split the decimals into a new book. It cant be easy keeping track of the massive output of the mint these days, especially when cataloging with effectively numbers as they can so easily get transposed incorrectly. @Geordie582 As far as I'm aware, there are 2 full sets of 2015 coins one with IRB, the other with JC's portrait, at least in sets if not in circulation. In my opinion the increased number of varieties the mint is producing is totally down to them wanting to raise as much profit as possible, why sell one proof set per year when you can sell 2 or 3. Ian..
  15. If you find two, remember who put you on the right track
  16. But can you find one Mr BE? Thanks again for everyone's kind words but no one (except Brian, who emailed me) has come up with any other examples. Ian..
  17. Thanks you all for your kind comments, I really appreciate them, but don't be shy, what have I missed? @secret santa - no it wasn't deliberate to make it non printable, to be honest it's the first time I have used Google drive and there doesn't seem to be an option to allow printing, unless someone can tell me how. I'm quite happy to send you a copy if you PM me your email address. Ian..
  18. You know me too well
  19. Thanks Nordle, This was more of an accumulation of other people's work, rather than my own research. I would love to get a full list of decimal varieties listed, as I'm certain this is far from complete. Ian..
  20. I do like the Beatrix Potter 50p, it's a nice clean design, but as it is part of series I suspect the mint will either not release all of the series into circulation or have a rare one so they can increase sales from their website. Or am I just old and cynical?
