Did you read the winners feedback? It appears he may not pay for the item...he has a history of not paying until he is given positive feedback...WOW! The price is way too high for the coin being sold...IMHO! Bob C.

Chris, I just sent you an e-mail about the 1849. Please advise. Bob C.

Holger, You are correct about the 1840's Pennies. They have skyrocketed in the past few years, especially the 1845-1846, and 1849. I expanded my penny collection backward from 1860 a few years ago, and got a rude awakening when I puchased the above three (3) coins. If you don't already have an 1849, you are really going to get sticker shock when you try to buy one. They are far higher than Spink's, etc. Chris's CCGB for 2008 has the most realistic pricing for those three coins. Good luck in your search. Bob C.

HC... The add is right about one thing...it needs cleaning! <ggg>. Bob C.

Since I looked at your 1847 copy under higher magnification, I did the same thing to my, near colon 1847, and if you have the lighting just right, you can see a very faint colon after Britanniar. This is not visible otherwise. This is the same thing Michael Goby shows with his 1847. The far colon 1847 that I have, has a very bold colon after britanniar, so I didn't include a pic of it. Bob C.

Stechlin, Peck 1492 is the DEF close colon, and P1493 is the DEF far colon. I have one of each. The Near (close) colon, (P1492) does not have the colon after Britanniar, but the far colon, (P1493) does have the colon after britanniar. Peck lists the near and far colon after DEF, but does not mention the presence or absence of a colon after Britanniar. Obviously both of the latter are unlisted varieties. Bob C.

John, I will go over the added sites you have provided, thanks. My only Australian Book (other thn Krause) is the "Modern British Commonwealth Coins" by John Harris. Since it is a Whitman publication, it is more like the USA "Redbook," but it does list Australia, and New Zealand coins. You are an old IT guy...it's a small world, I am also. I am retiring this Friday from the business. Regards, Bob C.

Aardhawk, That is a great site, Thanks. I didn't know so many varities existed. I have a complete Aussie Penny (except the 1930), and Half Penny collection, plus many spares. I can see I am going to have to start looking for varities. Bob C.

1860 mule farthing?
RLC35 replied to matty-2-0-0-7's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I hope I have attached the file right... Here is a 1860 mule, while it is circulated, and from a worn die, it shares the same charactoristics as the Cooke example. The beading has a wider spacing between the outer rim and the beads. I have seen a lot of examples of the toothed border coins that have a similar configuration as the Matty copy, but all are clearly not a mules. I had not looked at the reverse when I made my earlier comments. I kind of got caught between all of the earlier postings, which was a little confusing. Thanks Chris for combining the posts. The one shown is from Michael Freeman's collection. There is also another poster...maybe Teg..who also has a copy, which is a little nicer, maybe he can post his example also. Just my humble opinion...for what it is worth. Bob C. -
1860 mule farthing?
RLC35 replied to matty-2-0-0-7's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Colin, I think you are right...it is not a TB/BB Mule. I just took a look at the reverse, and the tooths/beads are centered between the outer rim, and the inner circle. On the mule the beads are closer to the inner circle. Both Cooke's mule and my mule are that way. Still a nice farthing. Bob C. -
1860 mule farthing?
RLC35 replied to matty-2-0-0-7's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Matty You might want to look and see if it has "multiple" rocks on the left side of the Tower, instead of a single rock. That is another identifying feature. The 130 beads is a good identifier, so that also would lead you to believe you have the real thing. It sounds like you may have got a bargain! Bob C. -
Vteaute, The 1943 NZ 3d is a pretty common coin, with 4,4 million being minted. In VF it has a value of about $1.25 US$. The 1950 3d is the most scarce of the George VI 3d's with a mintage of 800,000, and a value in VF of $3.50. The lowest mintage of all the 3d's is the 1935, which has a mintage of only 40,364 and a value in VF of $125.00 US$. I hope this helps. Bob C.

Gary, and BCC, I think I may have one of the 1911 1/2 penny's you referenced. Please look at these pic's and advise. The I of Britt looks to be pointing more at the tooth, but is slightly off center. Bob C. -
Mark, Unless I mis-counted there are 15, Geo VI, and 16, E-II. I don't collect the proofs, so that would be an addition, if you are saving them. Good Luck with your collection. Bob C.

Happy New Year to All! Any New Year's Resolutions?... Since I am retiring this year (age 72 is long enough to work!), I want to do some travel, with my wife, who is already retired. Maybe to the UK! Numismatically, I want to continue to upgrade my Penny and Farthing collections. Good Luck to All in the new year! Bob C.

I think this is Sue of Ye Ole Banknote Shop. Never met her and didn't know she was a member, but very helpful in letting me use images for the grading guide. Red, I've seen the screen name on eBay, but never made the connection with the shop. Bob C.

Clean or don't touch.......

Colin, It's looking better with each step. When to stop is a hard one. By the time you realize that, you've usually gone too far. Good luck! Bob C. -
Clean or don't touch.......
RLC35 replied to Colin G.'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Colin, Here is what it will look like with the Verdigris removed. Once that stuff is badly crusted, it means it is also eaten into the base material. This 1875-H was probably EF+ when it was lost in the ground. Good luck! Bob C.
