    Hi Dagz, Mabuhay
  2. Prehaps ebay should make a ruling that any coin after the second time though should go for melt, it's about time a lot of the very low grade stuff was cleared out.
  3. Probably, please explain more. Because it's only a VF commonwealth penny of which there are invariably examples for sale on ebay at any one time. Latest Spink price on these is £80 in VF which is about right. £207 is somewhat OTT even if it is a reasonable example. I'm still in the dark as to why so many people pay twice what they would if they got it from a dealer, be it a website, off a list or at a fair. It doesn't make sense. If I listed one in that grade at 3 figures it would stay unsold. An Aberystwyth penny in comparable grade sold in the last online CNG sale for less and there's probably only been one other example for sale in the last 12 months - I know what is the better buy. Thanks Rob, thought it might have been a cast tourist piece.
  4. Probably, please explain more.
  5. Ok I stole these links from another forum, but I think you will find them interesting Farthings QEII coins New Mint
  6. Another new one to find, wait a minute mine's like that a well, now to find a normal one. Wait all of mine are the H errors arrrrr is going to take forever to get them all in the normal H.
  7. Halfcrown Russ, tenner if you do it on a Sunday night! Sunday is madness you can get £20 Coin for 99p and equally a 99p coin for £20.I would recomend a midweek night with out football on the box....but be prepared to take highs and lows Yup that right I buy at £20 and sell at 99p
  8. A wash in soap and water usually doesn't hurt, just tamp don't rub when drying
  9. Its better around the Perthshire area, Pitlochry, Tummel Valley (my brother has a static caravan there)Kenmore where i went camping as a kid and remember going for a swim in the River at 6am, it was so calm and great weather we loved it as kids, getting a little commercial now, but still have fond memories of Kenmore and i go back whenever i use my brothers van as it's only about 10-15 miles from Tummel along the wwinding roads. Then there's Blair Atholl, my great uncle worked there and the Duke of Atholl is the only other person in the UK with his own private army other than the Queen Mrs D has alway wanted to go to Scotland so this year we have 2 week in a caravan on the Ayr coast and a night in an Edinburgh travelodge for £9, that the travelodge not the caravan, that cost £119. Ain't that prices to gladden a scotsmans heart. Gary D
  10. Sorry you have got it completely wrong. Having moved the mint from London to Wales where the child labour is much cheaper than the extortionate wages expected in the capital, to make further savings they have imported hundreds of Cambodian children who site all day hand carving each coin individually.
  11. Is it recorded anywhere what the mintage of these was? TIA Gary
  12. I got my scout collectors badge with my coin collection, I remember I had to take my collection along to the local museum and show to the curator who signed it off to collect the badge. Does that mean I get one.
  13. I see the winning bidder has a feedback of 1000 so surely not a fool.
  14. As someone who collects world copper and bronze, I find the Krause books invaluable. My set is a few years old now, so I just use the prices as an indicator of scarcity David I think all the current price guides are next to useless in the modern market which is so volatile. Spink is ok for insurance valuation unless you collect varieties then everything goes out the window.
  15. There are much better strikes out there, wait until one comes along Gary D
  16. Dave, no luck yet, is there a manufacturers name on the microscope anywhere, so I can try and find an alternative supplier Mine I think is called X-Cam although all references on the box just say USB mocroscope. I got it on offer from Maplin. Gary D
  17. The area where the one should be looks very uneven. Post mint damage I would suggest
  18. Brilliant exercise Declan! It's late in the evening for me so I will study this at greater leisure. But as you say, the number of 1904 halfcrowns, compared to 1906/08/10, is positively alarming. The was word on an american site that a load of Chinesse 1903 and 1904 has turned up here in the UK
  19. In the eighties we were on a rugby tour based on the West Coast of Scotland...they locked us in There might be a few half English roses up there...we all did our bit I still get the xmas card and a big grin she is now probally a 20 stone munter ....I could and would of married her...then I met Mrs Irish Peter I know we are gradually drifting off topic but do you ever show your collection to other collectors or are we all a bunch of Billy no mates when it comes to coin collecting.
  20. At least you won't have to worry about damaging them when removing from the slab, there's every chance you might even improve the coin.
  21. 807 BM (8)+ 1719-Obv. large letters. [c]
  22. I keep my collection in my Peter Nichols cabinet and insure with Stamp insurance. The cabinet is very heavy and quite robust, I have it chained to a wall with a snatch alarm fitted, although it all goes into the bank if we are going to be away for more than a day or two. I have a flight case that is converted to take the cabinet trays which make life much easier. Here in deepest Suffolk you can't be too careful. Gary D
  23. I want to know what 'NEMATUT' means. Something like 'draugefas'
  24. I stand corrected, but I don't actually remember them being available that far in advance. Of course you couldn't spend them... I'll have to go and find mine, for some reason I 'm thinking it is in a red folder. No it is Blue and as about as saleable as a Churchill crown.
  25. It does seem ridiculous to try and sell a 1p for 99p and you would think that it was a bit of a scam as you live in the uk and can just pick one out of your pocket. What do you do if you collect uk coinage and live in Asia or somewhere else that doesn't use sterling as their currency.
