  1. not always.. some bargains to be had there if you look plenty of overgarded coins and general rubbish but you can get one HELL of a bargain sometimes... and misrepesented isnt a bad thing all the time? remember my 1882 halfcrown listed as 1898 i got for only a few quid ? dont go ebay until you have at least a basic knowledge of grading and identification, and of course ebay is a great place for decent bulk buys, even with postage buying a mixed lot of 200 coins you can get them for stupid prices like 5-10p a coin (trust me there is always nearly something in there worthwhile of the purchase ), there are bargains to be had on ebay, i have got many a bargain. DO lookup dealers near you, they usualy have a good mix of anything and everything, bargain buckets (sometimes a bargain in those too )
  2. indeed i do know that, it just seems odd that sometimes some coins have a huge hike while other are only minor. i was just wondering if there was a sort of estimate done on crades in general to gt a ball park figure of how rare something is in high grade regardless of mintage
  3. so what about the post 1860 copper? what we looking at, those are reasonable figures with scarce pieces and of course what everyone had
  4. always wondered this, what % of the acctual minting figure would a predecimal was lost when the coins went to decimalization. but curiously, grading, we know high grades cost more, but what % of a figure is expected in EF or above?
  5. still nice, i find a lot of 1964 halfpennys with lustre though, i have no idea why 1964 is that way :/
  6. possibly dipped, mint darkened farthings you see, as the lustre was yellowish, people were passing them off as gold pieces
  7. its 2 prong no . after DEF bit knocked, still scarce, what struck me as odd when it arrrived was the thickness of the numerals, so naturallyy i take a look to see whats going on, but cant help but notice the 8, it also has an interesting B in BRITANNIAR but thats not exciting. for this picture you can see what got me interesting in investigating the date (the thin 3 compared to the others) BUT in the process i did spot that corner in the top right of the 8. here is a zoomed in picture, you can see the angle, and i cant help but think that the 8 is over a 3 (looking at the shape of the righ side of the 8) click it for a larger image, which shows the general shape of the 8 and i hate pressing 8 instead of 9...
  8. didn't George V hate the rocking horse crown? anyway, i wouldn't play more then face value for a coin. speaking of the mini i have one... it was free... even if its just a 10p planchet with a differant design
  9. its in fine, reverse is acctually more VF then fine but obverse is fine.
  10. what the? bargain of the weekend 1926 aEF penny pictures are not that good, but i can see enopugh of the helmet to see thats well into VF, even if its not modfied effigy, if this is EF, which by the looks of the text at the bottomis VERY LIKELY then its a winner and probably rare and a lustrous 1938 penny 1938
  11. i just buy whats gorgeous, and anyway, farthing s are great , especially if you get some rare ones and trying to find open3... urgh, and what exactly is the differance between a normal 3 and a slender 3 without a very very small differance?
  12. heh nice, that might slightly top me 200k mintage EF 1939 rhodesia 3D then in an £8 200+ coin bulk buy i should try and find boot sales and fairs and have a look through these, i have found these at 25p this year alone at my dealers nothing like a good look. also going through the unpriced stuff brings gems, i have an absolutly gorgeous aEF 1885 japan 1 sen for £1.50
  13. i can see a differance. i'll check mine later, currently looking at the 9's on edward VII
  14. i hate sorting through stuff, but i have got lucky with bulk buys on ebay, found some pretty nice things in a good % of bulk buys still worth a look through, use the key dates guide on the site and look for those.
  15. yea, wasn't letting that pass me by, saw the grade and though i'll have a bit of that, especially at the dissapointment of the 1858 small date farthing i was watching going over budget.. did pick this gorgeou thing up at the dealers for 25p
  16. dang if i saw that... anyway 2 can play at these games 1839 2 prong trident farthing 1855 EF halfpenny
  17. better then a fair few halfpennys of the period, and has the feature of the date at least, again hard to put a price on
  18. hmm, bit knocked, might be interested but had to find a price in that grade
  19. ineed, but still go through them 1800's stuff usualy fetches something
  20. arrived today, that 1910 is gorgeous, all better then photos.
  21. part of the furniture would be better
  22. yea, wish the market here was like that, pennies in that grade are going for way over book price
  23. i cant, thats zoomed in off the image itself already, the smaller image shows the shape of a B though. if i could get it sharper i would, i might see if i can.
  24. yes thats the dome on, in the packaging
