  1. i like Spink's prices, rather than Coincraft's. But when you compare the two on factual information Spink's is blown out of the water. I also like the way Coincraft have arranged theirs by demonination rather than by monarch, it means i can easily look through all the sixpences without having to get jealous from having to pass through 5 guinea land, or getting tin fever from passing through farthing land. And they have more pictures of type varities. Spinks tend to list next to the date something like this... 1928... many varities..... (and then the prices) Coincraft would do this. 1928 small lettering.... 1928 large lettering... 1928 redefined borders.... 1928 8/7 etc. (that was a total made up example) I prefer Coincraft over Spinks info wise, price wise t'other way around. Another reason why i prefer Coincraft is with the hammered stuff i can now actually identify the coins cos they have pictures of every class, Spinks just list them and put only a few pics up. I couldn't attribute my Edward I penny to any class in Spinks (class 10A wasn't illustrated), Coincraft i did it in about 10 minutes. All those years of wondering what it was too...
  2. hmm spade guinea hey... i'll have a look for nothing, but i've got my eye either on another Quarter Noble or on that Eadwig penny. The Eadwig is the one i really want, but it's a bit over my budget, i could get it sure, but you never know what's around the corner, and i might leave myself short of cash. Then there was that 1677 sixpence i needed. I will actually buy that one day.
  3. The British Coin Market that rings a bell, don't they do prices for George III - Present in Silver and Copper only? Not much good to me i fear, as i have now completely quit collecting British Coins with a date after 1800. And the only George III ones i'll be interested in now will be gold ones. As i have both the sixpences i wanted.
  4. going on you're signature i would have though an angel would be up your street. i always wanted one of those.
  5. You know what I would do with some of that... Buy a Gothic Crown! (I guess Sylvester probably would as well) i think i would William, i think i would! But i'd get a James II Guinea too, and a Richard II gold noble. Or perhaps i would wait for a Queen Mary Gold Sovereign? Or an Egbert penny, or one of AEthelstan!!! Yes there's alot i could buy with 10,000. I really want an AEthelstan penny one day.
  6. well i did always fancy a nice Ford Anglia, but i figured i didn't know a radiator from an engine so i gave up on that idea.
  7. don't blow it all on coins though when you get it will you? It's a good idea to keep a bit back for a rainy day. (admittedly i'd probably spend it all, but i'm a compulsive buyer).
  8. Play your cards right Master, and you might be able to get one, one day! My tip get through school and college, go to uni get the uni loan (keep a bit back for the odd coin purchase!)
  9. It finally arrived and i feel like dancing around the house... http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=889554

hmm when we say wrong way up i'm assuming you have no prior coin knowledge, thus i'll take it that you don't mean wrong way up for the issue. If you hold it the right way up on the obverse with your thumb at the bottom and finger at the top and rotate the coin the reverse should appear the wrong way up. All Young Head Victorian gold and silver coins were minted in this fashion. It only changed to obverse and reverse being the same way up in 1887 with the Jubilee head. The coin is minted in coin alignment (modern British coins are minted in medal alignment).
  11. But supposing you collected crowns by date/type and minor varities including errors, it might be of more interest to you then. It's like saying why does anyone collect mule obverse reverse bun head pennies...
  12. exactly...some 'psycho' probably could if he wanted!!! what i meant is if someone you knew (who didn't like you... and i've made alot of enemies in my time), saw your pic they might just think ah i know where he lives. I knew someone at school who bragged off about his new bike, two weeks later it had been nicked by someone else in the school for drug money.
  13. I see you agree with me. From the point of view of security and the safety of your collection i would advise against it, if someone you know comes across a picture of you on the site and they know you've got a house full of coins they might just pay a visit.
  14. I don't mind showing him a pic of me... This is another reason why i avoid these things. Rest assured i won't be putting one up, ever.
  15. Hmm that reads odd, you really don't understand?
  16. nothing as low as the 1992 50p though! If only i had known when they were circulating. Although if you're looking for the rarer ones, you want to be getting the dates that were not produced for circulation. As the ones that were produced for circulation have proof versions, and normal versions both for UNC sets and the few million or so for circ. The ones that weren't only have the first one, like 1972s, although i think 1980s ten pences are always a good place to start.
  17. i see 1985s every day, they are not rare, infact i see more 85's than i do 84s and you know how common they are, just behind 1983s.
  18. that's because he meant the 1988 £1 coin!
  19. Yes, I had a wonderful red 1977 Spitfire 1500. I loved that car, but unfortunately it was written off by a bloke in a Citroen. His insurance paid out though, but I never got another. Hmm wasn't a Citroen 2CV was it? (i mean those things are evil...)
  20. i've got a €5 note, ain't they horrible! You just reminded me i've got one of those Cordial whatsit £5 coins in my pocket too, i'm just trying to see if chucking it around will make it look any better or not. See if i can own the most circulated example...
  21. supply and demand again... 1933s will always be sought after because no-one likes a gap in their penny collection. Minor varities pull the serious/advanced collectors, a whole missing year pulls anyone doing a date set.
  22. well if your's is a seventh then it ties with the 1933 penny, if there is only six and you've got the 6th one then they are rarer.
  23. wouldn't happen to be a character in Dracula by the same name would he?
