  1. Although dark and some of the legends filled with crud the coin has good remaining details.
  2. Thanks, I almost have one of each of the progression and one now without a broken tooth. Then I can forget about the recessed ear 😅 Well until better grade examples appear..
  3. Also the uncirculated coins shows obvious ghosting where as the dark does not.
  4. I know the 1915 is hard to find with a good strike uncirculated but in the image I have attached it shows a " Lustrous uncirculated" coin and the the ear looks partially flat at the top. The darker coin I have circled all the wear which is mostly flat areas not shown on the uncirculated coin and yet the ear appears to be untouched. How can most of the face show flat spots but the ear the highest point appears less worn than the uncirculated coin. Or is it a question of a weak strike on the uncirculated coin. That doesnt account for the wear on the darker coin and ear looking to be mostly intact with no flat area. I'm going to guess this darker coin is a recessed ear.
  5. As example this coin is less worn, I cant see a broken tooth. how would you tell? Thanks
  6. One other question I have please ; I know higher grade examples are really hard to come by with the recessed ear. But on better grade 1915 penny that dont have the broken tooth and not much wear to use that as a guide what would be the process be to identify the recessed ear? thanks
  7. Excellent, thank you very much really helpful information.
  8. Can I ask a question please ; The follwing coin is not a recessed correct? There is no broken tooth. Does the ear look recessed to you?
  9. I found this coin to my surprise.

  12. Absolutely yes, I was replying to Ians initial question to give an idea as he said he couldnt find auction/sale prices.
  13. A sold example of the BP1898Ca with remaining luster graded A/UNC sold for £400.
  14. Do you think the coin I have was made in the USA? is there anyway to know? Not that it makes much difference just interesting, the book i have linked above may have the awnser. thanks

  16. Thank you for the response. Having had a chance to look into these further now I found another example the same as my coin with the closed G's looks to be identical. I was quite surpsised to see the price it was listed for and my coin is clearly in much better condition. I read some of these coins were sand cast from a period around 25 years prior to the date of manufacture to avoid suspicion and like you say made to look worn. These coins dont look sand cast to me.. I have seen a few coins with very grainy surfaces that do look cast. Its interesting to think when and who made the coin. I breifly read about some similar type coins being made in America aswell. I read also the 1775 coins are the most common. That 1772 coin is in great shape, lovely coin thanks for sharing.
  17. Looking on the LCA website and comparing this coin to examples listed I can see so many differences.
  18. I just received this 1775 Halfpenny coin included in a bulk purchase of pennies. Without any knowledge about this series it looks like it could be a contemporary Counterfeit? What do you think please a genuine coin or Counterfeit? It's the legends that made me think it's a counterfeit. It weighs 8 grams exactly. Thanks
  19. Sorry to hear of Andrew passing away. It was Jelida who mentioned him, I was replying by asking the question about the 3/2 Penny. Would it be worth contacting the school in the off chance the collection is at the school it would be interesting to see is the 1903/2 is present in the collection.
  20. Cor blimey ! I think you done very well indeed. Sorry to hear this about Mike. If the house was broken into its probable the collection was stolen such a shame😟
  21. The coin on the right is the LCA coin. The image of the other coin looks washed out its just the poor quality images and I think it would look much the same as the LCA coin. If you can find the scans great thanks !
