1860 Jb (V over inverted A)
absence of uniformity replied to secret santa's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
"The centre "A" bar is clear and solid. The coin I have clearly shows this. Nice to find one that has a MG number associated and from what I can see no other examples are known. When I look at the earlier prices for the F90 you can clearly see the early sales are higher value for worse condition coins. And as they have been discovered the prices drop off. Does this apply to this type? Same location, same size, clear and solid, and same die pairing. -

1862 VIGTORIA??
absence of uniformity posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The reason I'm careful what I share is because I found this coin below 1862 VIGTORIA and purchased the coin. I shared the images of the coin using the seller's images and strangely a few hours after purchasing the seller refunded me my £6 and said they cant find the coin.... Is it possible somebody done a reverse image search, contacted the seller and offered a few hundred quid I dont know. Or maybe its a true story. If you see this coin anywhere on the internet for sale please let me know. The damage/pitting under the chin is quite unique plus the rim damage. I was was quite disheartened as I searched high and low for that coin. Strangely after obviously contacting the seller a fair few times to see if the coin reappeared they didnt respond apart from once asking why is the coin so valuable?????? Il leave that with you. -
Me too ! I got the rarity rating wrong though..Its not R19 its Gouby R9.. I can only find information about one other known example. But there is probably more out there ! The other known example is much better condition than the coin I have purchased. The type is clear as day in the seller's images but Im going to wait until I receive the coin before sharing anything. I also only want to share my own images to avoid any reverse image searches.

Agree and with my coin if the worker did? punch an F over E for me that's where this coin does become a variety the human involvement in changing the die. -
F over E?

For my own collection not taking into account desirability a die characteristic that shows some distinctive feature / difference to the normal design added intentionally whether the outcome was correct or not is a variety. -
F over E?
absence of uniformity replied to absence of uniformity's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Somebody did find this 1860 coin desirable having parted with £260 on it. But most likely because it has a freeman or Gouby number associated to it. The 1862 PFNNY which was unrecorded by both and a better condition coin only made £29.. -

F over E?

I have noticed people are very quick here to tell you something it is not. Which may suggest it's looking good for this F being manually punched over a E... or is it? -

F over E?

What's a bit confusing is the visible underlying letter plus the defined line in shown in Red on the second drawing. Has a worker punched the letter F in an attempt to repair part of the E? -

Hi, I cant find any info on a known variety F over E which would read PFENNY on a Halfpenny coin. Please look closely at the attached image. Does it look like F over E? The reason I dont think its just grease filled die is the defined line marked in red in the second image. Many thanks

@ggx51 I hope you dont me mind me asking a similar question in this post. @Paddy do you have a suggestion please for the black crud to the left of Britannia's bicep, its quite soft. Originially I was going to sell this coin but it has grown on me alot I love the size and thickness of the coin and decided to keep it.
