The Bee replied to Paddy's topic in Forum technical help and support
It makes sense. I have only been posting a short while, and am still able to post pictures (which I reduce in size before posting). most recent were some more halfpenny ID queries (more halfpennies I bought in the lot with the E over B. Though I don't understand why so many forum members would be hitting a limit at the same time, unless there is an overall storage space issue in the background. Best Regards ! -

And checking my tray I also found this one - seems to be a bump on QV's forehead - this is London 1874 Halfpenny -

Hi I think I might have an 1874 H 10 + J and an 1874 H 10 + J2 (the obverses look different but I suspect its just wear) The 1874 H 10 + J is missing some of the waves under the light house AND on looking closely at the 8 in the date, its an 8 over an slightly lower 8 which was to the right. Great to get your thoughts as always Best Regards -
Hi dmw2602 Have a look at the latest London Coins Auction - I have been told there is a copy in one of the lots with other coin books (I have a copy and am looking for the Mr Gouby's earlier publication)

Hi This is my first 1 over 1 for 1861. It may have been repaired by the same person that repaired Richards 1 over 1 They are very similar. This is 6 + E and Richards is an E reverse The difference being Richards 1 leans to the left while this is straight Best Regards -

Follow up to 1861 last 1 next to 1 Thought these pictures might be of interest ... 1 next to 1 is actually (I think) ... a trace of a 1 next to 1 over 1 or over a repaired 1 Best Regards -
Sounds like a collector would need evidence of provenance / proof of chain of custody. I wonder if the RM wrote a letter to the "VIPs" and still has a record of who they wrote to either at the RM or possibly the Public Records Office if they have deposited any records there. [free "gifts" are not always looked after well], .

Halfpenny ID check

1879 Halfpennies just checking my ID's are correct ? Looking back at my original 1879, I think it's probably the state of the coin, but QV's forehead looks slightly different Best Regards -
I thought it sensible, as many experienced members on the forum have seen huge numbers of repairs over the years, to have a separate "help with repairs topic." It seems to be a niche interest, possibly because there are so many different examples. But on the plus side, they are affordable and gives a learning opportunity for amateurs like me. I thought I'd kick off with what I think is a circulated 1860 D+d penny ? where I think we have a T next to T in Britt ? followed by a T over something maybe an I ? (On a more worn example the T next to T would look like a wide slightly off centre downstroke) For anyone interested it would be great to get your thoughts and maybe see examples from your collection

Hi Martin, I think you're right. Still pleased with it and I'll need to keep an eye out for an affordable T over T, in better condition it (per the picture in the Bronze Penny) Having prodded the B in britt with a wooden cocktail stick to dislodge the gunk its looking "normal" (there is a repair at the back of the downstroke). Similarly there is / was something under the R though, possibly part of another R. I don't think I'll resort to clamping it in a workbench and using a car wash pressure spray to completely clean it (as a You Tuber recently demonstrated on George VI pennies) Very Best Regards

Hi Richard, I saw it - don't know what it went for . I had a couple of my typical "low" bids on at Noonan's, but I don't think I won anything. Very Best Regards
-
Hi and here are three more images from the obverse I cleared as best I can the gunk out of the B in Britt , but there is something behind it ? The R in Britt is also a bit off and (more usually) repair on the first T and G in D G along with doubling on the D Great to get your thoughts ! Best Regards

Hi, Arrived earlier today 1860 Penny Which I think this is a circulated BP 1860 Nf (F + d) I can see part of the upper T in the linear circle and the remains of a foot sticking out in the RHS of the leg of the T. The C has been doubled and the O repaired Best Regards

Halfpenny ID check
The Bee replied to mrbadexample's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I managed to track down two examples of the "bit of fudgery" on the E in REG from the 1860 Beeded Halfpenny There is the the end of something sticking out at the top, but because the repair went wrong there is a break My other more worn example looks more like an L and so I do wonder if this might be the source of the E/L This example is clearly not an L. The only letter on a halfpenny that I can think might fit is a broken H I- with the foot of the H snapped off and right hand leg of the H removed. Any thoughts ! Very Best Regards -
Hi dwm2602, Which error pennies did you buy that you think you might have overspent on ? Very Best Regards

Many thanks Terry, I've never seen that 1856 , what a find (challenge to find another), and what a bad day at the Mint ! Obviously someone missed the large sign hanging outside ... "Her Majesty Queen Victoria" Should have gone to Olde World Specsavers ! Very Best Regards
-
That would be great, I was going to suggest the same thing. I feel - the "More Pennies" (and I know Pennies are of greater interest than Farthings and Half Pennies to many) thread has been somewhat side tracked with (really interesting) non Penny posts ! Many thanks for sharing Terry, what a super error to find - very impressed ! V. Best Regards

I'll need to have for look at a picture of the 1851 d over d sideways (have an E over E sideways on a Half Farthing but not seen a D over D ) Think I might have the fat 8. Have a T over T (from Britt) on the way (all being well) And my most unusual so far would be my 1892, "possible" 2 next to 2 in the date. I would need to find another better example to confirm, not seen another so far, but then again its only been just over a year. Very Best Regards

Lovely 1852 Farthing copper123, you've set the bar very high ! Very Best Regards
