Pennies 1905 smaller zero's and 1896 damaged die ? For fun I bought the other week 9kg of circulated pennies at auction. They were probably in some kind of order when the auction house kindly put them in the box, but having been shaken about by Parcelforce, they ended up well shuffled. Just started wading through and I've pulled out a few for a closer look There appear to be two 1905's pennies with the smaller zeros (normally I don't find any) and an 1896 penny which initially I thought was damage, but now assume was a die problem. It looks like someone has put some extra bronze on top of some of the C and T in Victoria and a bit in Dei

Minor GB Penny Queries - Etched 1860 ?, Lower 90 in 1890

1891 Penny Queen Victoria Images from three of my 1891 Pennies. Photographed them as best I could identically. Looking at the last images the nostril seems to be shaped slightly differently. Is it just toning or wear ? Or are they simply all the same Great to get your thoughts Best Regards -
1891 Penny - bit of grease or something partly blocking the end of the tail of the 9 and some of the feathers on Britannia's helmet I've compared three examples and wondered if there has been some adjustments to QV's face or whether its just wear / toning (I'll post elsewhere) Best Regards

1860 Penny D + d Hi, I bought this 1860 Penny recently, think its a D + d, with die clashes I assume, but wondered if it was one of the micro varieties of + d's that Paul Holland found Great to get your expert thoughts Best Regards P.S. there is an extra couple of lines on the shield , well out of alignment, which I originally took to be a scratch in the auction photo, which I assume is related to die clashing

Apologies, I can't remember whether I have shared this one before - I think it is a 1861 Farthing with 1 over 1st 1 . There is a gap in the exegue line for "something" -

Hi, Which 1860 was that ? Best Regards -
Many thanks Dave, I can see in David Groom's book (Identification of British C20th Bronze Coin Varieties)there are 8 minor varieties of 1900 listed. Glad to hear that an additional minor variety has been recorded. I wonder is there any source with pictures of the 9 or whether anyone has collected all 9 ? Best Regards

1900 Penny Dates There just seem to be two widths for 1900. Wondered if anyone has found any wider than 11 teeth or narrower than 10.5 teeth ? I only have examples of those two and and minor variations on the position of the 9 e.g. the base of the 9 aligned with the base of the 1

Just look at Britannia's arm or the armour on George , great fun though !

It makes sense. I have only been posting a short while, and am still able to post pictures (which I reduce in size before posting). most recent were some more halfpenny ID queries (more halfpennies I bought in the lot with the E over B. Though I don't understand why so many forum members would be hitting a limit at the same time, unless there is an overall storage space issue in the background. Best Regards ! -

And checking my tray I also found this one - seems to be a bump on QV's forehead - this is London 1874 Halfpenny -

Hi I think I might have an 1874 H 10 + J and an 1874 H 10 + J2 (the obverses look different but I suspect its just wear) The 1874 H 10 + J is missing some of the waves under the light house AND on looking closely at the 8 in the date, its an 8 over an slightly lower 8 which was to the right. Great to get your thoughts as always Best Regards -
Hi dmw2602 Have a look at the latest London Coins Auction - I have been told there is a copy in one of the lots with other coin books (I have a copy and am looking for the Mr Gouby's earlier publication)

Hi This is my first 1 over 1 for 1861. It may have been repaired by the same person that repaired Richards 1 over 1 They are very similar. This is 6 + E and Richards is an E reverse The difference being Richards 1 leans to the left while this is straight Best Regards -

Follow up to 1861 last 1 next to 1 Thought these pictures might be of interest ... 1 next to 1 is actually (I think) ... a trace of a 1 next to 1 over 1 or over a repaired 1 Best Regards -
Sounds like a collector would need evidence of provenance / proof of chain of custody. I wonder if the RM wrote a letter to the "VIPs" and still has a record of who they wrote to either at the RM or possibly the Public Records Office if they have deposited any records there. [free "gifts" are not always looked after well], .

1879 Halfpennies just checking my ID's are correct ? Looking back at my original 1879, I think it's probably the state of the coin, but QV's forehead looks slightly different Best Regards -
I thought it sensible, as many experienced members on the forum have seen huge numbers of repairs over the years, to have a separate "help with repairs topic." It seems to be a niche interest, possibly because there are so many different examples. But on the plus side, they are affordable and gives a learning opportunity for amateurs like me. I thought I'd kick off with what I think is a circulated 1860 D+d penny ? where I think we have a T next to T in Britt ? followed by a T over something maybe an I ? (On a more worn example the T next to T would look like a wide slightly off centre downstroke) For anyone interested it would be great to get your thoughts and maybe see examples from your collection
