  1. What are you picking up Chris, a hoard?!
  2. I don't know about everyone else, but I find coins graded abt. BU off-putting because I imagine a big scratch or carbon spot (only with coins without a photograph).
  3. I really need to make an appointment to see the British museums collection, I hear it's the best in terms of variety.
  4. Wow, I might just do that! I would love to see that £5 1826 proof you were talking about!
  5. I have the 2cm one but there is a larger version for each metal.
  6. I've got one of those! Sylvster's right, its a diamond jubilee medallion. They were origionally struck as matte proofs (had a frosty appearance). They also exist in gold and bronze. Value wise, its a bit sketchy, I've seen them for sale from £4 to £100 in Uncirculated (no wear or damage). They would have also come in a red presentation box, which will increase their value.
  7. Is there much demand for them Chris?
  8. Maybe it was struck on a thin flan and the design on the observe and the reverse was not struck. I have not heard of this error before, sounds very interesting.....
  9. I have just seen this shocking offer in a five year old copy of the phoenix.....2x1967 Wide Rim halfpennies for £8.95! That is shocking!
  10. Personally I think Coincraft exploit new and young collectors which shouldn't be allowed.
  11. In their advert they say that you cannot buy a subscription to the Phoenix. Just as well!
  12. Do they actually sell high grade coins pre. 1900 at the right prices?
  13. We have just got a gold in cycling! Two so far and many more tomorrow with the sailing and the rowing!
  14. I used to get then free with my subscription to "Money of the world" about five years ago.
  15. I got my free copy about a year ago.......its full of "scarce" commemorative issues and £5 coins priced at £6.95 (not including P+P). Do they actaully sell rare high grade predecimal coins? I actaully saw a collection being sold by them and EVERY coin in the collection was doulble Spink price.
  16. That's what happens, I'm surprised that it wasn't in the last few seconds.
  17. Sometimes they do that, maybe two people were fighting over it?
  18. I would E-mail Chris at cp@predecimal.com and see what he thinks. He may be able to purchase your coins.
  19. I also like to see what I am buying first. I have not used Ebay to buy coins for about 6 months now, and I find fairs are the best way to buy coins. Mail-order is good but I am sometimes aprehensive about some dealers.
  20. I'm surprised that you don't know him Geoff!
  21. Coin News wrote an article on this about 2 months ago......it says that fakes are weakly struck and have pitting in the field and the design. There is also a difference in border teeth.
  22. Yes, at last a swimming medal! Could have been a silver if it weren't for that japaneese swimmer in lane 7!
  23. Just seen it after doing a quick search- in my opinion, you should bid £35.
  24. Can you post a link please, I am interested to see the item.
  25. What year is the halfcrown? It looks like its a solid VF, possibly a GF. If it is a common year I would bid between £40 and £60
