  1. There's a discussion on the 1970 halfpenny in the thread shown below, should anyone be interested.
  2. Thank you for your time on this Bernie. Conclusive proof. Is that your coin may I ask? So, at least 3 known. Anyone else have one to add?
  3. Must admit that I was more swung towards a 6 but I haven't the experienced eyes to be certain on a worn coin such as this. Any idea on the current population estimates? I'm sure it must have increased since Dracott's figure.
  4. Sorry. The coin in the link at the start of this thread. I was interested in the 1878 halfpenny, a few lots further on. The above lot was skipped over. But without audio, I never heard why.
  5. Watched the auction today on my phone. Muted by auctioneer. This lot didn't get an airing. Anyone in the room able to say what happened to it?
  6. Thanks Bernie. Could I ask why you say 4? Using London coins photos for Ob 4 / 6 and comparing with the legend on the RHS, I can make it either, depending on which photo I use. I trust your judgement implicitly. Just curious.
  7. I'd like a little help with this one please. I think I'm correct with reverse F but can't make my mind up on the obverse. Not much to go on I'm afraid. 4 or 6 ?
  8. Extremely informative thread Gary. Thanks for taking the time to find it. I would imagine that your wants list is minimal.🙂
  9. Thanks Jerry. Appreciate the confirmation. How's your halfpenny collection coming along?
  10. Really useful identifiers. Thank you all. Here's a couple of maybe wishful thinking. 1862. B over R. And an 1860 HAIF. Rev B, but paired with a 4, not a 2.
  11. I'd class that as F style hair. It's thicker and extends down slightly further, to cover more of her bra strap.😀 And I do appreciate a legend pointing. On most of my coins there seems to be very little Britannia left.
  12. Thanks Martin. Very helpful photo of the sea crossing the circle. And an F style lighthouse too. Is the hair to shoulder detail the same as an F? I've just rechecked the London coins photos and all bar 1 appear to have a G style sea detail. To my eyes anyway.
  13. Evening All. I'm having trouble with this one. Can't make up my mind whether G or I. Dracott's N pointings aren't helping. Neither are London coins photos of 310, 311. If I had to commit, I'd say G.
  14. I quite enjoy reading old threads. Some reach a conclusion. Others descend into mayhem and occasionally, like this one, the story ends abruptly. Does anyone know the history of the coin since this thread ended? Just curious.
  15. Thanks for the Heritage info. I'd go along with your identification using the die break. Some excellent realised prices even on the lower grades like mine. I'm a stone's throw from Portsmouth and Southampton so it could possibly have entered the country through one of those docks. I'll post the others on this thread just in case there's anything else worthy of note.
  16. Dr Larry referred to it a few times in his threads. Wyon had a furnace at home in his workshop to harden dies it seems. Does sound a fascinating read.
  17. This coin came amongst a job lot a few weeks ago, together with a couple of others of a similar date. 1770's. A Google search bought up a site called: Novanumismatics.com. They have an interesting article on Machin's coin production in New York, with Vlack numbers. If I've identified correctly, this is a Vlack 20 - 87c. Sheldon R7. 4 - 12 known. Would someone be able to confirm or deny please.
  18. Browsing the internet the other evening. Came across a site called Fanbety Store. Revisited this evening and spotted a familiar 1861 half penny 7 + D, available to buy now, at a discounted price. The title and photos seem to have been lifted directly from the eBay listing through which I purchased it back in August last year. I've alerted Winter Coins, the original seller and felt that a warning would be useful here too.
  19. Thanks for the confirmation. I would like to say that I spotted it myself but I was pointed in the right direction by a forum member, to whom I owe many thanks. I was going to suggest that it may be greedy for you to have 2 examples, when this one popped it's head up. Neither as good looking as yours but another to the known list?
  20. And the previous coin on top of the 322A for comparison. The colon dots after the G are noticeably wider, which I think confirm the obverse 13.
  21. The coin in my last post arrived last week. As did this one. This is, I believe, the one I was hoping for. 322A. 13 + J. R17. Opinions please.
  22. Hi all. Thank you for the many opinions. Definitely not a 13#. I can identify that at a glance, but interesting to see everyone's identifiers. Another pointer, is that the second I of Victoria has been rotated slightly clockwise, so appears more upright. I didn't post the reverse because I didn't want it to influence the obverse identification. I was thinking F322A but opinions so far make me think I'm wrong. Agreed. The coin in hand, when received, will tell all.
