This is the best that has passed through my hands: Davies 1744 (not the commonest microvariety, and there are a few!). Sold in April for a little under Spink but more than CCGB!. They're not easy, but they are out there. Patience grasshopper.

Mine points straight downwards, but then it's not a DSLR. Do you need one? Probably not. Macro on a point and click does me just fine...

Is this the old dear who had all that nice Gold Declan? Did she ever sell it? No - it's a different old dear! I've known her for years but she only told me the other day who her Dad was. No idea, of course, how important his collection was. For most of his life, his family didn't even know he collected coins. And no, she's still got the gold - she got quite interested in it after all that. She may even end up buying some more....! She only needs to sell the single most valuable coin and she could afford lots more! I remember! DNW estimated £20-25k for the Sharps-Pixley 1828. Not a collection I'm ever likely to forget going through...

Bloody hell, that sounds great. I fell in love with XH558 at last years Fairford, but it wasn't there this year so I went to Farnborough as well just to see it. I took the underwing tour and was hanging on every word! 11 years between the first Lancaster and the first Vulcan. That is some progress in 11 years, they look like they are from a different century. After the Vulcan waltzing gracefully through the sky the Typhoon seemed like a 16 year old going too fast round a roundabout on an RD50! The Canberra hits the spot for me too. Early jets seem to do it. Meteor, Vampire, marvellous.

So was I, Stu!Ah, there it is! I searched everywhere, remembering you said this! was a great day, Declan, SO hot...no shelter...thank god for the cider van! I was in a field on the North side of the runway with about 200 other cars. £15 to the farmer to park up, he supplied a burger van and a few portaloos, and the best seats in the house from the comfort of your own car roof. So close you could feel the heat of the afterburners on your face!
