  1. As close as I can find so far, legend on reverse of mine I believe will say HOLLHO then maybe a mint mark of some kind., then P or T obverse is slightly different as well, no small cross before HOLLANDIE on this coin I'm still searching, lol never looked at so many coins from Holland.
  2. now that would be a good idea!
  3. Thanks again Rob, Much appreciated.
  4. Its strange stu how all the gold I have found has come out in lovely condition, just a George IIII Sovereign I had that maybe be me or the plough had dinked it.
  5. Is there a reference to the obverse Rob?
  6. Just putting this coin in the correct section as it is a lovely hammered coin. The reverse die is the same as number 200 in the famous Schneider collection but the obverse has the mint mark in a different place, maybe an over mark.
  7. hammered!!!!
  8. the one I put up dave is a sixpence.
  9. Thanks again
  10. just looking I have another with 8 over 7 as well, so must be a normal practice.
  11. Thanks guys, so just normal. was this normal practice as well back in Elizabethan times. 5 stamped over the 4
  12. Just wondering if the date on this coin has a normal 6, 9 . they both look like the same open backed punch, is this correct for this date?
  13. Thanks. will put it as Edward II jeton

  15. Yes could well be. Or maybe a counter.
  16. 20 mm across, not really sure of date but maybe 13-14th century it could be a token, any help with i.d appreciated.
  17. I.D required please, I think its a double stuiver. 2.9 g 27mm across. Thanks for any help.
  18. It was a nice feeling seeing that lump fall out of the clod.
  19. I think this has to be the most beautiful gold coin I have plucked from the ground. This was found some 25 years ago, every time I look at it I think about the poor person that dropped it. It still has luster around the legends.
  20. Thanks Dave. I thought striking cracks may have been caused by the silver cooling to fast, only reason I asked
  21. Thanks Rob, will enquire.
  22. Thanks stu, don't think I did bad ..... but it did take me about three evenings looking at them will post better pics of the other two.
  23. Really interesting chaps, thanks for the comments. Just out of interest Would larger coins such as crowns and half crowns be heated before hammering.
  24. The first coin Ricard on Nicol looks very much like ficard, but can't find that moneyer. so must be Ricard.
  25. Thanks Peter and Rob, so someone hit the punch slightly to the left, not a direct hit, On the second strike.
