DAS, (Hello, I assume you are the same DAS that has been a good customer these last few weeks!) An Evasion Halfpenny, or an evasion anything for that matter is a counterfeit coin, deliberately made to differ enough from the real thing to avoid being illegal. I would imagine some of the British fake George III half pennies with legends like 'George III Rules' and so on, could be described as such. The maker could claim that they are commemorative or token coins in celebration of the king, when really at that time when poor people couldn't read all that well, they could also be readily passed off as the real thing, but with little risk of prosecution for the maker. I think I probably have a few Evasion halfpennies and most seem to be from the reign of George III. Another example given in this years coin yearbook is the imitation Sumatran coins by European merchants that were inscribed SULTANA instead of SUMATRA! Chris www.predecimal.com

As if Eliza will have a clue about your Fry fivers or tiddly 5p's! Don't forget she's a colonial I imagine your cheque book having a date starting with 20-- would probably put any sellers off in 1985 too! Chris -
Did you see my W+M Half Crown with the obvious overstruck 'M'. I think ESC lists that variety as rare. http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/williamandmaryhc.jpg The page it's on: http://www.predecimal.com/new_early_milled.htm Special price to you! Chris www.predecimal.com

It must have been a joke, or perhaps it's that same person that has the braille Guineas! Chris

Very pretty coin, that Double Eagle. I also had a look around that almost entirely US forum and was shocked at some of the grades given to the 1917 US Cent! Did someone really give it an MS63!!!! Even anything AU is pushing the boat out! Hope this link works: http://www.coinpeople.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1452 Chris

Yes that's the one. With Stephen Hawking on the 'Keep talking' track. I don't know what a division bell is, perhaps it's the sound that is heard when people are parted, or some such metaphor. Go get that album! Chris -
William III Half crown
Chris Perkins replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Looks to be the 1696 London mint, first bust, large shield, early harp variety....Which although sounds very complicated is one of the common types. The going rate for that coin in that condition would probably be about £40.00, and that's about what I would pay too. Chris www.predecimal.com -

William III Half crown
Chris Perkins replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There are many different types of 1696 half crown, mainly differences in where they were minted but also extremely rare regnal years (the date of the reign in latin, on the edge). The most common regnal year for that coin should be ANNO OCTAVO. My monitor is on its way out, is there a mint letter under the kings head? Chris www.predecimal.com -

Yes of course, you're welcome to post pics of your coins and i'm sure you'll learn things along the way. In these relatively early forum stages there are probably only 3 or 4 members that will be able to comment on what you have, and I too look forward to hearing what they have to say. Thanks for sharing your info and images with us. Chris Perkins www.predecimal.com -

That's a Jubilee head Vicorian coin, looks to be Extremely Fine in terms of grade. There is a little wear to the high points. Unfortunately without seeing the back or knowing the size I have no idea which Victorian denomination it is? Do yourself a favour, save hours of time and sell your coins to me. If you can give me a list and show me the nicest ones in pictures of that quality I'll make you an offer over email. Thanks, Chris Perkins www.predecimal.com -

It was Gilmour and Waters, and Waters went his own way (producing one or two excellent solo albums). The 3 remaining members got a new bassist and made another 2 (or 4 if you include the live Pulse and greatest hits last year) albums. In 1994 one of the greatest ever Pink Floyd albums was released 'The Division Bell'. You must go and buy it now Eliza!!!!! Then they did the Pulse tour in 1995-96 which didn't include anything new but was live Pink Floyd at its best. I was at college during that tour and although others were into the Floyd it wasn't until later that I was captivated. Since then they have done European tours I'm sure of it. As far as I know they are still going, and Dave Gilmour got a CBE from the Queen the other week (Next step OBE and then Knighthood). The most amazing thought provoking music ever made, and without a doubt the best band ever. I have an interesting 1970 Video of them live in Pompeii to an audience of no people and just the erie Roman remains in the background. It features amazing live stuff, especially Echoes which is my current favourite 'song'. I go through phases. Chris. www.predecimal.com -

Pink Floyd is my most favourite band in the world, and as far as I knew they have not disbanded yet? I saw Dave Gilmour CBE live in '96. I have all except one of their albums on original Vinyl, and a load of CD's to boot. Chris -
Early Milled Coinage
Chris Perkins replied to Sylvester's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is very funny! As if they cared about blind people back then, and as if a bind person was ever likely to hold such a high denomination. I once saw a George III Guinea being advertised as a Gold Roman coin with an emperor on the front. It was worn almost beyond recognition, but certainly wasn't Roman. My mate Richard at www.coinsforsale.co.uk was out on a buying trip yesterday and encountered 3 Churchill crowns prices a very fair £8.50 each! I will be so rick with the 500 I have! Chris -
I have a detector, but the laws are very strict here and until I'm registered as being here I won't go digging anything up, apart from the Garden. I found a Deutche Mark and 2 Aluminium GDR Pfennigs! I'll email you. Chris

I think there is a case for collecting perfect coins, but there certainly is also a case for collecting coins with advertising slogans on them or anything else contemporary. They are different spheres, both interesting, and both have a place. I like my PEARS SOAP 1855 10 Franc coin! Chris -
Fellas, It looks very bright, so i imagine that was a result of the soil type and not the cold water. It looks nice enough to me. Chris
-
Oh yes I know where Feltham is. Used to visit a few schools there when I was in IT. I spend most of my time in Germany, especially over the winter because normally I can't actually leave (snow). I won't be over until next year, so please do email me (cp@predecimal.com) and we'll arrange something. Look forward to hearing from you. Chris

Dear Jay, I've seen your site. The EF Napoleon coin is no where near an EF! Apart from that, good to see the things you have found. Where abouts are you, I'd love to come detecting with you and purchase that coin next time i'm in the UK. I could send a cheque deposit to secure. Chris

Nice coin, looks like it's had a clean, but being buried in dirt I suppose there wasn't much you could do with it. I'd give you £600.00 for it if i could verify it's authenticity. What do you rekon Sylvester? Chris www.predecimal.com
