My latest purchase, and a farthing error I have never seen before, or even seen recorded. It is an 1874H with the O in Victoria having been repunched sideways. Similar to the G/G but with the O this time. I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has seen this variety recorded before. I am unaware of it in any of the Colin Cooke catalogues etc. It is instantly apparent when holding the coin even without a lens

Ok, not an O over sideways O, nor a G over sideways G, but I have just listed on eBay an 1874H farthing with C over C as per wybrit's post above, if anyone's interested, with this link... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284069502338 I have another one myself, so this one listed is a duplicate, but I don't know how many more have been noted? Not as spectacular as the sideways double entries, but it's there if anyone wants it as a variety!

I'd agree it is confusing. In the end the fact that the service is offered on the Post Office website, which was quoted, but not on the Royal Mail website, is the clue. I have run into this before - Royal Mail and Post Office are two completely separate entities these days. I discovered this when trying to send stuff to Thailand early in the first lockdown. Royal Mail site said post was now being accepted for Thailand, but the Post Office wouldn't take it as their website still showed it as closed! When I queried this at the counter they explained that RM and PO are now independent of each other.

I checked at my local Post Office this morning. Consequential loss additional cover is available through the Post Office - it is not a Royal Mail feature. You can get it added at the PO when you buy your Special Delivery postage. Because it is not a RM offering, you cannot do it online if that is how you usually pay for your SD postage. Interestingly the first teller I spoke to had never heard of it, but a more experienced person overheard our conversation and came to our rescue!

I always have my fingers crossed when they discover hammered coin hoards that they are from the 1140s, but with gold present probably more 1300/1400s. Still maybe it'll drop the price of nobles for a while? 😁 Harold and William coins, that sounds interesting. Suppose it depends how many make it out to collectors though, probably no so many if they are rarer types and we are talking Harold here, so not exactly common.

A friend of mine, who has since made an even bigger find that is yet to break the mainstream news, a huge hoard of William and Harold coins.....the hat pin took 6 years to go through the treasure process and was eventually disclaimed and returned to the finder
