1905 shilling Obv 2a

Recommended Posts

I have a chance of buying this coin so need a speedy reply. The coin on the left is a 1905 Shilling Obv1, the middle coin is an Obv 2. The one on the right to me look like an unrecorded Obv 2a. Does anybody agree.

The photo isn't that definitive for me, but it certainly does look like a 2a obverse. If you do buy it and it is a 2a I'd appreciate confirmation so I can include in edition 2 of my book.

From David Groom's book, the features that distinguish Obv 2a from both 1 and 2:

In BRITT:

  • Straight leg to 'R'
  • Larger gap 'R' to 'I'

In EDWARDVS:

  • Tail of 'R' is straight
  • Tail of 'R' is short
  • Wide gap 'R' to 'D'

On balance when in hand I decided that the coin was a Obv2, well closer to a 2 than a 2a.
