There are no die numbers on halfpennies. A few 1862 halfpennies were struck with letters by the lighthouse, but numbers were only used on some 1863 pennies, silver (2/-, 1/- & 6d) from 1864 -1879 and gold from 1863 - 1874 sovereign and 1863-1871 half sov.

Thanks again Rob. Can you confirm which Obverse / reverse combination on this coin ?

I've never spent a great deal of time pawing over freeman's victoria halfpennies but, one thing's for sure, if he got rid of those useless images, he could've saved an awful lot of paper!

Sacrilege I know! Apologies in advance to all that may offend!

obverse 7 has curls or clump of hair at the back of the neck...

visible even on worn specimens...

obverse 5 has a scalloped pointed middle top leaf... also visible on worn specimens

Thanks for the vote of confidence Stuart !!

You have my absolute confidence, old farthing!

I'd stand any cheque you'd care to write against the boat I now live in!

You can feel that way about certain people! :)

I just hope the coin's not a fake? ;)

It is, on higher grade specimens....

SOME but not all obverse 5's display an indentation in Victoria's forehead..

An excellent article on Victorian bun head half penny varieties is the one.written by Iain Dracott ....
It lists many varieties/die combinations unlisted in Freeman...

Is a soft copy of this article available please?
