si666 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 HiGreat forum guys I haven't posted for ages but I am always checking in to read the topicsBrought this from a local carboot and on closer examination it appears to be 2 over a smaller 2 on date?Checked the About Farthings site and can find no mention anyone seen one before?Sorry about pics-best I can do it is very clear looking through a loupe.obverse- Quote
Rob Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Looks like it.This short run of farthings produces more enquiries than just about every other reign. Missing serifs abound, double or even triple cut numbers. Considering the quality of the portrait and Britannia, it is somewhat surprising that they didn't take care over the legend and punches used. If the dies have previously been hardened then I can see it being difficult to punch in another character. The abundance of varieties ensures a well struck example with no missing serifs or double cut characters is something of a rarity.I think this falls into the 'just another' category. Quote
si666 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 Thanks Rob.Paid peanuts for it and nice to find its a bit different Another interesting addition to the collection. Quote
