Hi,

I've got my eye on a couple of gold sovereigns from an eBay seller based in the US. Does anyone know if I would I be required pay any import duty or would this be exempt?

Many thanks.

Tell the seller to call them metal tokens.Over 300 years and it will be FOC.

I've paid duty once and the bloody coin was over 300 years old...there is a time limit to reclaim.

Otherwise as k the seller to send it as a letter and. to a Package or packet this way it will come straight through customs, i've had this several times from dealers in the USA and the German zoll let it go straight through the System.

Only packets and such like are pulled here, letters are'nt. Wrapped between to pieces of coragated cardboard should protect the contents and save £20

Peckris - I didn't realise there were potentially two charges: import duty and VAT. I've just tried out that Import & Taxes calculator and it suggests there would be a £16 VAT charge if I bought a Sovereign worth $500. I guess that's not too bad but I might just try what Peter and Azda have suggested about asking seller to send as a letter and mark contents as metal token.
