Why won't a word document print a page with jpg images on it?

As the title says. It isn't uniformly applied. I have a word document with mostly text, but a couple of small jpg files embedded halfway down which prints ok. The other two pages have 3 images on each taking up a full sheet of A4, but it prints maybe 1% of a single image across the whole page (approximate resolution about 9 dots per inch). Help.

I don't have a suitable PDF program (Adobe?) as far as I am aware. Only the reader version which you can download.

Looking around, is acrobat pro at £67 suitable? Anyone with experience of PDF programs? Any cheaper equivalent, as it ought to be a common enough requirement for someone to do a free, or nearly so version.

Thanks anyway. It failed on the second step as I don't appear to have the relevent bits for 2007, nor those for the 2003 version as follows.

Bl**dy nuisance. Having just sorted out the chronology for the W/SA threepences in a concise 3 page article, I can't produce the results.

You can get free pdf converters on the web, just type in word to pdf converter and hey presto

If you are happy to do so you could e-mail it me and I could convert it for you with some software I have called pdf exchange.

In future, assuming you have a (free!) Google Mail account, you can upload a Word document and it can be converted to PDF form.

Thanks, but I've got too many contacts that would have to be told of the change in address to go to another email provider. That's not going to happen because I guarantee that someone currently really important would be left out of the loop.

Ditching the current provider would also leave me with the headache of how to deal with the 6000 odd emails in my inbox, a considerable number of which I would like to keep.

I think some form of PDF program will be sorted once one of the offspring turns up. Someone said you don't necessarily have to use Adobe Acrobat, which could be good if it saves me spending 70 quid on something I would use infrequently.

Anyone can have a Google account, which comes with free email address. It's not INSTEAD OF your existing provider, it's AS WELL AS. You don't even have to use the provided email address, but you can use the free online storage and especially convert your docs to PDFs.

Googlemail is webmail, i.e. you access it via your web browser, not your email program. Microsoft provide their own version of it - Windows Live - complete with free storage also, so theoretically you could have umpteen webmail addresses, each one with free email addresses (which you don't have to use), free online storage, and in the case of Google, a suite of online office programs.

Having converted your Word docs to pdf then you can just re-download them again if you want, to print them off.

I don't have a problem with multiple email addresses as I already have a couple with BT courtesy of the person who set it up in the first place, rather it's the multiple providers that are a potential headache or compatibility with existing programs. When my eldest reappears in the middle of August, he can sort it out and make any necessary changes to the settings.

Webmail (e.g. Googlemail) aren't an alternate provider - they're a different kind of email altogether, though you don't necessarily see any difference at your end. Compatibility simply isn't a factor. I've got 2 providers AND webmail with Google and Windows - that's 4 "providers" and I don't have headaches.

Good news. Number 4 hurt himself climbing in Majorca and had to come home early.

He has sorted out and shown me how it is possible to save files in a different format, so now there's no need to get google mail to do the job.

Course I did. I was never very good at climbing because I'm not skinny enough, so went underground instead. Showed him the place below in the US that I went down in 1984 and it blew his mind. Eeee it's a strange world.

After the conversation with no.4 last night, I dug out my old caving logs and did a search on some US names that I'd caved with. The first result for one person was his recent request on a forum to find me following a working trip to Montana in 1982 which prompted me to take my gear and get in some time underground. One weekend we found a reasonable amount of virgin cave but the system was only fully surveyed a couple of years ago. It transpires I had an underground lake named after me as the finder 32 years ago. Who would have thought it?

I haven't looked at the logs for over 20 years, which makes the timing a bit spooky.
