bagerap Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I've never got started with hammered even though I studied Latin and Anglo Saxon. Doesn't stop me reading about the though. This link was put up on CCF, and I'm wondering how useful it would be to detectorists and hobbyists?http://www.psdetecting.com/Inscriptions.html Quote
scott Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I always use that as a quick glance for mintmarks etc. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 It's been a quick reference for many years for countless people. Definitely worth bookmarking. Quote
Rob Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I'm not sure it is worth having the full English translation in the table given that you would never find a coin with translated legend. Commonwealth coins being in English require no translation. I usually sell early editions of North to detectorists. Cheap and cheerful as a reference, I think a net based one is less obviously useful in the field, and in the case of the link not particularly helpful when a high grade coin image would do a better job as you could actually see what was written.
