One thing that I have wondered, A full proof unc set of coins inc maudy how would you go about valuing, adding up all the coins or is there a reference for these sets?

Spink publishes prices of pre-decimal proof sets in Coins of England. 1937 is PS16 (15 coin set inc Maundy).

My copy is out of date as it's from 2006, but hopefully someone can check a more recent copy for you.

I found this http://issuu.com/spinkandson/docs/13015?e=2874488/5581310pi saying £240-£280 if I'm looking in the right place

but the individual coins at proof UNC is Valued more than the set, this seems odd?

and what would stop greedy people getting the £402 i calculated opposed to £240-£280?

It's always been the case that individual coins add up to more than a set. This is probably due to some people willing to pay a bit more for a singleton to complete a run or a set, than for a complete set which might include some coins they don't want. If you have a complete set and intend to keep it as a set, value it as a set not as individual coins.

That's just an estimate. The lot could be sold for more or less than this figure. Nothing would stop people asking for £402, but as always, it depends on what someone is prepared to pay. If you paid £1402 it would be up to you, no one else.

Can't make out great detail, and I suppose this is right up my alley but these do not appear superior coins. I would be inclined to put it more at 275-300 max regardless of Spink. I think it may be a bit harder than suspected to find a set with really nice unhairlined and undinged Crowns especially. The copper would do well to be attractive.

I think the nicest sets would be in at possibly double that figure, you know the ones that appear almost VIP in presentation and plenty of cameo effect.
