Request on value of 4 crown coins and a florin

Hey guys,

I'm going to be a little cheeky and ask for advice on the value of these 5 coins

1, a 1695 crown septimo edge

2, a 1818 crown

3, a 1935 crown

4, a 1937 crown

5, an Australian 192 commemorative florin

I will upload pictures so you can have a look but due to be being a newbie when it comes to lighting the pictures do not reflect the shine or lustre of the coins, especially the 1927 florin

What sort of valuation do you want?

There are 3 main ones; insurance valuation, auction valuation or private sale valuation?

I suppose private sale valuation

As a group you would be looking at around £200ish depending on who the buyer was. If I was buying I certainly would not pay any more than that for them.

The early crowns are 92.5% silver.The George v and vi are 50% silver and might make £20 each.Have a look on Ebay.

It is a funny old market and you may get more for the 2 early crowns.

No problem.

The 1818 is the scarcest and the 1695 is better than most for wear, the problem is that both appear to have been polished/cleaned in the past. A nice gun-metal 1818 would have been £150ish on it's own.

The other 3 are all common and only worth anything above scrap in top grade.

Yeh i got the impression that those 2 were cleaned to but not with anything abrasive so i asked:

Apparently he washed them with soapy water while drunk one night

but they seemed to be in such good condition i figured I'd buy them anyway

there were 10 coins in total including half crowns and a 1855 half pence and a Victoria copper jubilee medal from 1897 in the box.

all up not bad for £70

The Australian florin is 92.5% silver but it's a commemorative so they're reasonably common in decent condition.

I have the silver (pewter?) version of that Diamond Jubilee medallion. It's a nice design, though not rare. From what I can remember of my schoolboy Latin, the inscription seems to be saying (I paraphrase ) "Length of reign in her right hand, glory in her left".

BTW washing silver in soapy water will remove superficial dirt but won't give a 'cleaned' appearance. That 17thC Crown looks as though something a bit stronger was used? Unless he really scrubbed it, of course!

yeh i'm well happy

i had a look at the others 1916 1921 1933 half crowns and a 1927 shilling english reverse with ring if i've worked it out correctly

i'll post some of the pics ( shame about the 2 coins that were cleaned )

Nope. It's the earlier effigy.

I sell these copper large sized ones for £70-£90 if cased, so you made a steal. The 1926 halfcrown looks a very nice example of a reasonably difficult to get coin (in high grades that is).

While none of those GV coins is UNC, you still got an absolute bargain for the whole lot - including the crowns - at £70.
