Colin88 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Spink have clearly spent a fortune on their latest websites and technology platforms...unfortunately what they havent done and clearly never do, is to test any of it before putting it into 'production'....by that I mean after they've done something new, then actually allowing real users to test that it all works...dont just take the IT bloke's word for it. That scenario sounds familiar. We get the same at work with new programs. No trial run, so all the flaws are discovered by the end user on day 1. Somewhat perversely, they always withdraw the old system before installing the new. So if the new falls over, you can't revert to the old one. What's the issue with Spink's website, anyway ? You didn't say. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 What's the issue with Spink's website, anyway ? You didn't say.Slow, difficult to navigate and poor search function (particularly as the interesting archive of auctions appears not to have been (yet?) made available. At least, that's what I've found. Quote

Conversely a badly designed, user unfriendly one, irritates and frustrates before one even starts. Quote
Nicholas Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 This site was not designed by latest IT web designers. Navigation, look and feel, speed to complete the screen ( which is made up of lots of little slow blocks), the cookie question that once answered takes you back to the start, the very limited, and I mean really poor search on archives- not only is it tricky to navigate., it seems to not allow more than two words in the search. It's like going back into the 90's. their last web site much better. Yes, the last version better. What a waste of money. Try again spink. This time please use IT professionals and consult some savvy coin site people. Quote

Etc. when my bids online have been made, there is nowhere to see a summary of the those bids. So what's the use? The site is almost useless. Quote
Colin88 Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 I did actaully write to them outlining all the issues and the fact that clearly they had wasted a lot of money on very poor underlying technology and IT expertise. I also recommeded that they should consider letting real users test any changes they make thoroughly both in terms of functionality and how real people (ie their customers) would actually use it....not just let the techies loose on it then put into into production.I didnt get the courtesy of a reply which is fairly much in keeping in my experience of the "me expert, you d*ckhead" attitude that some of these old school coin dealers still tend to have even now....hopefully the newly appointed Mike Veissid will go some way to change that within Spink at least. numismatist Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Yes Spink new Web site is Pitiful, and ive emailed and phonedseveral times, emails ignored ,they never got back to any phonecall. Leaving bids is now a complete mess and you cannot seewhat you bid as its so faint, and after you have bid you cannotfind your bids. Also the Photos are now very poor and low gradeso much so that they are just not good enough to really tellthe proper grade by. In the past their Photo Archive was superbwith very high quality photos. Also if you do have the luck tofind archived lots with prices realised with a specific itemsearch, there is no sold date given so you dont know if theprice was 10 days ago or 10 years ago .This must have now gone on for over six months and they dont seem to care a damn ! TomGoodheart Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Gah!! Once again, I have tried to use the Spink website. And once again I have come to the conclusion that it's totally unusable crap. They should have got some GCSE IT students to design it. It would work much better than it does I'm sure. Largely on the basis that it currently doesn't work at all ... Quote
