hi all, im new here, so please be patient.i started collecting coins quite recently,and purely by accident. whilst at work few months ago, i heard about the undated 20p, so i started to look for it in my change drawer. i didnt find one but what i did find were some two pound coins that had errors on them.After searching through various coin sites i found that it was broadstruck and the milling missing around the collar.I also have one that im not sure about,its a 2003 two pound coin that on the obverse looks more like a 2p because its copper coloured. any info on this particular coin would be greatly appreciated.

i dont know what photobucket is so im gonna have to get the expert(my son in law) to show me how to do that.in the meantime, it nice to chat. ive started to collect coins of all denominations,most of them currently in circulation, but more as a fsmily heirloom than profit,so i wont be selling any of them. they are going to my grandchildren eventually so i need to know how best to store them.

Photobucket is a site to which you can upload photos from your computer. They can be viewed there, or it gives you a url (web address) that you can paste somewhere else, like in a post, and the link makes your picture appear.

As for storing coins (and bearing in mind modern ones will be of maybe historical interest but unlikely to be of much financial value) the key things are to avoid them rubbing or knocking against each other and to keep them dry and away from chemicals such as perfume, cigarette smoke. There are lots of ways to do that. A chocolate type box with partitions would work. My Dad used to just fold coins in small pieces of paper, though the acids in paper can change the colour (tone) of some metals. More fancy options are albums or trays (Chris who runs Predecimal sells all sorts of storage options. Just click on the predecimal.com link near the top of the page)

Yes, welcome aboard! If you take a quick look at the past threads here (which I'm sure you already have), you'll find what it was that also attracted me to the forum...regular members, and enough information and expertise to drown you for many years! Everyone here, and I believe everyone, even the experienced dealers, will learn something regularly from the threads posted...from regulars, but most definitely from the new members, who always add a new dimension to the way questions are asked!

For storage, the main thing is not to store them long term inside PVC or in contact with PVC. It's really got a bad reputation for damaging coins because of chemicals. The other thing is to store them in a safe place where they won't be subject to careless handling, perhaps by curious children, or well meaning polishers (coins can be heard to scream if you polish them!)
