This is as normal as evenly spaced digits. The last digit was entered manually on the die and so can vary considerably in position. For a similar thing on an 1862 halfpenny, post #18 refers. Here

Thanks rob

Hi,

As Rob says, various different positions for the '2', aside from the expected, seem to be relatively common. The rare version of this coin has the the whole 1862 date formed using noticeably smaller numerals, usually described as being from the 1/2d.

Here is a coin with similar spacing to the one you have, for comparison:

It's probably also worth pointing out that the pennies of 1861 and 1862 show variations of position of the final digit more than any other date. It's more noticeable on the 1862.

As you say, common in the early years.

That 0 on the linear circle looks like a runaway keg of beer rolling downhill! :D

Nice find!

To be treated as an interesting curio, or a must-have micro that'll need upgrading one day?

To me it's just a common or garden 1860 beaded and no price premium for having a drunken '0'. Like most engineering jobs the simplest task is always given to the dumbest operative hence the number of bizarre varieties!
