Just bought this of the bay. Its a 1883 shilling it looks like an inverted V but maybe just a blocked die what do you think :unsure: Just need to know how to record it,oh and im grading it as fine although im out of my comfort zone in vicky stuff,I can just about manage to get an eddie7 close :D

Yes it is a bit of die fill.

You are a wee bit harsh on the grade though. It looks to be VF give or take half a grade.

Blocked die for me! If you look at the general profile of the A's on your coin, you will notice they are all leaning forward, including the 'inverted V,' whereas the V of Victoria, if turned to view it as a potential A, actually leans slightly backward!

Im fairly sure i know what you mean but ill have a closer look when i get the coin in hand. Still a good buy imho cost £11.40 :-)

Common date and it has been scrubbed, so probably about fair value. £15 max. An acetone bath won't get rid of the scratches which is the main detracting feature and there is no underlying lustre to bring out because the surfaces have already been compromised. It doesn't have eye appeal IMO as the washed out appearance suggests it has also been dipped.

Ah i see the mistake now the pic in the opening post and the last post were both the 1883 shilling the one in the middle is my 1858 shilling :D:blink::ph34r::unsure::huh:
