I will try to find and show more high grade coinage.The coinage of the first republic (1919-1937) was consumed by the later "Third Reich". The copper and nickel in circulation was exchanged versus aluminium and zinc during WWII. I am not really attracted to the coinage of 1937-1945, I have a few specimen in order to document historical events. Quote

ChKy Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 well... The silver coinage of the first republic (1 Mark, 2 Mark, 3 mark & 5 Mark) was withdrawn in the 1930ties before the outbreak of WWII. The material was used for coinage of the Hindenburg 2 Mark & 5 Mark pieces. Silver disappeared from circulation lateron. It was considered as important for the war effort. The officially withdrawn silver coinage went into the melting pot, the resulting silver bullion was used for weaponry-deals as payment. Anyways... the latter coins are very common. The population denied to obey the Nazi government in this regard. The remaining silver coinage was hoarded in large numbers. Quote
