Chris Perkins Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 These 2 Arabic coins would involve more patience than I have to identify them. They certainly don't appear to be the usual Ottoman/Egyptian easy ones, so I'll offer a reward of £2 (£1 per coin) via paypal - I'll cover the fees - to the first person that can identify them for me; providing the country/ruler, mint and date details. The first one is this one, it's silver, 22.85mm in diameter and weighs 5.67g with a plain edge. Chris Perkins Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 The second one is silver with a milled edge, is 26.6mm diameter and weighs 11.67g. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) I think No 1 may be a half rupee in the name of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II (1759-1806), Farrukhabad mint, Bengal Presidency, British India regnal year 45 (1803) KM# 97.1See #640 on Rupee 1 However the number of dots appears unusual and the flatness and plain edge makes me wonder if it might be a replica? Compare it with this one: http://www.apnaorg.com/articles/subhash-1/The second appears to be an earlier coin of the same bloke but from the Arkat mint, Bombay Presidency, British India dated 1759 and struck at Calcutta (Rose mint mark) KM# 427Rupee 2Clearly I'm using someone else's attribution so can't guarantee that's correct. As for the money, it was fun and didn't take long. I have a decent memory and guessed lucky. If I'm right, that's payment enough! Edited July 18, 2011 by TomGoodheart Quote

Red Riley Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Being an ex traffic cop I can finish your ad for you Chris...."One careful owner and 40 careless drivers" I once did a photoshoot for a motoring magazine with an M40 police pursuit driver - me in my old Riley and him in a police Vauxhall Carlton. It turned out that the mileage on the Carlton exceeded that on my 50 year old Riley by a wide margin. 'Still' I said, 'at least it's been well maintained'. His reply was unprintable. So that's the reason I run and hide whenever I hear a police siren. Honest m'lud. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 It actually had pretty low miles, mine. It was crime scene investigation and video surveillance car. I sold it off of ebay in the end for a pawtry £655 (and the running prob was only the Lambda sensor in the end). Quite a bit more than it cost, but after some repairs and registration fees it wasn't such a good idea. I was hoping for a grand. Quote
