Rob Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 If you're going into proofs and patterns then welcome aboard. Sometimes it feels a bit lonely as virtually the only collector of these items on this forum. Come on all you admirers of said items - fill your boots instead of just window shopping, there is enough material out there to go around.Proofs...ummm...they have always been out of my reach...or what do I actually prefer?...an Unc currency or FDC proof?I will stick to what I know until I have Robs millions....and then it would probably be hammered gold and sorting out the best in the world copper 1672-1724 currency of course If only. Though if I did have millions, I'd be into proofs, patterns and currency, hammered and milled of all types big time. Or to put it another way, if I liked it I'd buy it even if I had a nice one already. Current funds don't always run to a type example, let alone one in top grade. Quote

I still buy when maybe I should refrain...My silver collection will be trimmed to just a few prime examples.A GEF 1915 2/6 no longer does it for me. ...Maybe I will add a couple of proofs. I need to lick my paws and narrow my collecting interests...however I can't resist a bargain. Quote

Quite a way out of my price range (for now at least)Ditto. With good funds I would buy up many of those delightful patterns and proofs (especially from the Soho Mint) that Peck lists. I think they are the most beautiful things, but sadly their rarity makes them very pricey.I still buy when maybe I should refrain...My silver collection will be trimmed to just a few prime examples. But a beautifully toned, crisply struck 1919 2/6 (say) would still attract me, if it was distinctive enough. Quote
