1918 & 1919 "H" Pennies

Hullo all,

I'm still sorting through the contents of ancient coin bags (a few of which are almost historical objects in their own right...)

Anyway, an enjoyable evening wading through George V pennies, found a trio of 1918 and 1919 "H" Pennies:

Not very good grades I know; VG? F at best?

eBay fodder methinks?

You're probably right. Grade though is generally 'Poor' (reverse legend obliterated). One on left might just creep up to 'Fair'.

I've been selling (and have loads more) H's & KN's ....they fetch pence in low grades....but hey they must be shifted (Mrs Peter's orders before I seek out a few farthing rarities and Pre 1100 hammered)

Ah! Takes me right back to the days when as a schoolboy I would hand in my 5/- pocket money to pore over bags of pennies from the banks. And the moment of increased heartbeat when I found a 18H or 19H ! Mind you, in those days the value of "rarities" (ok, key dates!) in average circulated grade was higher in relation to ordinary dates - which added to the thrill of the chase.

i have 2 bags weighing around 20kg each of pennies and there are literally dozens and dozens of 1918/1919 "h" pennies in them and many in better condition than these. i thought the "h" penny was a common one ? i've been carrying the bags with me to car boot sales to pass them off as scrap, i may dig in and pull a few out if they're worth keeping.

I can go with G-VG for the original post coins. As far as dozens of nice Heaton mint coins, please post pics of some of the best if you are able. In my experience the average specimens do not come much better than these shown.

I reckon anything with full lettering on the reverse is above average for these

If the reverse lettering ONE PENNY is part or mostly worn away, then basically they are still not worth more than scrap really. If lettering is complete and Britannia's shield is also pretty good, then definitely worth keeping. (I.e. genuine Fine or better .. and VF and above is sought after)
