Cleaned coin

I am currently bidding on Ebay for a 1935 Halfcrown. The seller states that the coin could have been cleaned but from the pictures nothing stands out to me that the coin has being cleaned.

Can anyone point out anything that I have missed.

From the reverse of the coin, their are small streaks that would indicate the coin has been "dipped." This type of cleaning does not diminish the coin nearly as bad as buffing, scrubbing, etc.

Even though it has been cleaned, it is still a nice coin. It is also upright of the seller to advise you of the cleaning.

Bob, this seller is my bete noire!! Virtually all of his coins are dipped - whether they are in EF/UNC or VF, every one of his listings states "coin looks to have been cleaned." This is a slight variation on his past statement "coin mite have been cleaned at some time - but not by me". (sic)

With this dipping of the coin has it devalued the coin considerably and in time would the coin not go back to its original state.

Why does he dip half decent coins...& Mackro...sounds a bit fishy to me.

It sounds like this seller has decided, on his own, that a dipped coin will sell better. Whether it helped or not, could only be determined if you could see the coin prior to dipping.

If it tones back exactly the same, would be determined by a lot of factors, not the least of which is environment.

DG43, It sounds like you are familier with this seller's technique, so you are in a better position to advise as to his tactics. I do not know him.

BTW... Macro allows for closer and more distinctive pic's to be taken, thus you get a better view of the actual coin surface.
