I have a circa 200 BC Ptolomy (can't remember which) copper coin. The Ptolomaic dynasty were the Kings of Egypt back then. I also have a Celtic British coin from the Durotriges tribe, circa 50 BC. And of course lots of Roman from about 70 AD to 400 AD.

Sort of acquired most of them, from other dealers or as parts of purchased collections.

I usually only collect milled but I think my oldest coin is a Celtic O geometric quarter stater.

It's quite a bad scan. It comes under early uninscribed coinage and probably dates to just after 70 B.C.

I suppose this Cast Celtic Potin coin is my oldest though I can't tell you much about it except it probably started life in Gaul around 1st century BC.

EA crude face on one side and a pattern of circles on the other. Reputably found in one of the southern counties of England. B)

As a general rule I classify George 111 onwards as modern coins.

& Pre Charles 11 as getting interesting (ie hammered) although some milled types were occasionally produced.

Your 1928 6d is 50% silver and in its time would of bought quite a lot......interesting in itself (but only as old as my father in law :D )

I have earlier proto-monies from the Skythian cultures, but this is the earliest that is actually a coin in the strict definition of coin:

Ionia, Miletos 1/12th of a stater, approximately 600 BC, silver and 7mm in diameter, a typically small coin from an era when coins were very very small.
