ozjohn Posted October 24 Posted October 24 The coin attached is not the prettiest coin in the world with the speckled toning. Nevertheless it's in the higher grades and a brief dip in Goddards may improve its apperance. Any thoughts? 1 Quote
Citizen H Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Its clean enough, with mine it would be a soak in warm soapy water, a gentle brush with a ultra soft tooth brush, rinse of any hand grime then rinse again in cold water, pat dry and see how things look, 👍 Quote
Peckris 2 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I would dip it in Goddards for no more than 10 seconds, rinse and dab dry. That might improve it to some extent but I wouldn't then be tempted to dip again. Quote
VickySilver Posted Tuesday at 05:12 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:12 AM Hmmm, I vote for a bit less aggressive. My fave is clear ammonia, diluted 1:1 that haw worked well on CuNi or silver coins. Try it on some cheaper bits and think you will likely see.... Quote
Peckris 2 Posted Wednesday at 09:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:38 PM I wouldn't call 10 seconds in Goddards aggressive! Quote
VickySilver Posted Wednesday at 10:48 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:48 PM My chemistry classes and background beckon, and they say, well that it is an oxidant that chemically further oxidizes the surface for removal of the top layers of the coin. Ammonia does not react with the metal surfaces so would in fact be less aggressive. Quote
