I thought it sensible, as many experienced members on the forum have seen huge numbers of repairs over the years, to have a separate "help with repairs topic."  It seems to be a niche interest, possibly because there are so many different examples. But on the plus side, they are affordable and gives a learning opportunity for amateurs like me.

I thought I'd kick off with what I think is a circulated 1860 D+d penny ? where I think we have a T next to T in Britt ? followed by a T over something maybe an I ?

(On a more worn example the T next to T would look like a wide slightly off centre downstroke)

For anyone interested it would be great to get your thoughts and maybe see examples from your collection

In a separate unrelated email, copied to myself, Michael Gouby writes:

"In 1806 to 1861 100’s of dies had the legend letters and numerals re-punched so as to keep the die going. An entire book could be filled if one were to record every minor off-set letter or numeral re-punch of that period. It neither add nor detracts value from the coin and are not recorded for that reason".

I don't collect such occurrences myself but, if it gets more people interested in the subject, am happy that people share their examples.

I don't keep tabs on all the repairs - too many - but they're good to know for die identification etc.

Agree with T over T for the first - maybe T over I for the second but the I looks short?

I agree that there are too many in the period to classify them all. But good on anyone who makes them a special interest.
