Kipster Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Morning all, On my last visit to Baldwins I heard that they were taking on a new junior numismatist. Not that I was looking for a job, but out of interest I had a nose around. It looks like minimum wage. Seems a bit low ball to me, certainly in London and expecting someone to commute. https://uk.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=cc69737a76dc731f&advn=5519585465138175&adid=447541345&ad=-6NYlbfkN0DkJMkHoMQrocPKu2SidVJosSscciceVH3ZJ3pSjDhZfZ5O7BLF3dEGfUgf2bI6LYbY_nw_PTsL1I13yB9kPo_ICxtNUJQo6gAEFzGlMD32hdSwYBky8hvPtFgGsmVVOdHARlnkwbf4lLtiB-4KDtcxytsJ4B_SZMJlFYBZEKE-D1TC52r-FV1R6LK0w4-qHM8hAdoUhzHcPbMMgEI2QS-rkZKvArfbe6a8s6ZZVgC9REUNhzKyVhzMKXCof-k08dQh7whtP_QigSiyYNVHppVWUG1r_oRLNOyuJ1bKYMTmSYEMBZNvf_AYACYfT5OxJkL3A9WcotqFSPfvmeBCw_4ySYhvPUAc_kRVhGLDid4j5IF2jvRmEUKFeTdVl_mjciOL-TN5Dl9jRsKbX2g0q4119SDb3pp0JoASHs_JpBBMmopYzff7Tsgpwe-5jxXKJkLWx3vtL9H3T0t8pSThI_VqqBm2qGMoLkkoux2ZHlTEMOlbt28vRyyEHGkca5GiRYvMVxSX95bPWXhieOQ7txHtsZZrbulDKY0yVFnhSxlmAeKAQjnrOtkhX2KyOYnXRcvIqY5xNFIEIA%3D%3D&from=mobRdr&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fuk.indeed.com%2Fjob%2Fjunior-numismatist-cc69737a76dc731f&desth=67bf6459f7049c0f23e5d06a0d20d39d&prevUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fuk.indeed.com%2Fm%2Fjobs%3Fq%3Dnumismatics%26l%3D%26from%3DsearchOnHP%26sameQ%3D1%26sameL%3D1&tk=1iurmkl1miogj808&dupclk=1&acatk=1iurmkphlkk3m801&mclk=default&pub=6917c08ec3ecf6012dd26f3773156e870cace3277f6b99df&camk=ethIe0s0hedv0sFhikL48A%3D%3D&xkcb=SoCu6_M3wbldf3WtEp0LbzkdCdPP&xpse=SoAw6_I3wblc6v29gZ0IbzkdCdPP&xfps=37507816-e192-467d-a20e-225e815ae62b&utm_source=%2Fm%2F&utm_medium=redir&utm_campaign=dt 1 Quote
DaveG38 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 The skill set needed goes way beyond a minimum wage job. Factor in travelling into London, and it is difficult to see who would be attracted by this job. Certainly not people with the skills and experience required, who would do much better elsewhere. 1 Quote
Kipster Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 Exactly that. It would cost me over £5k a year in train fares, and I only live about 20 minutes from St Pancras on a fast train. Perhaps it's a low offer to try and entice a young, enthusiastic person with a genuine interest in coins that would be excited about the job enough to stay for that kind of money, rather than someone who just wanted the money. DaveG38 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Thinking about this a little more, I suspect that this job is intended for somebody from a wealthy family, who doesn't need the money, but who has to be paid, hence the minimum wage quoted. Joining a business like this one would be a prestige appointment, rather than a financially valuable one, and thus suitable for somebody who wants a job in a 'posh' environment working with often high value items. 1 Quote
