Paul Mouat Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Hi All, im after some advice please. I found a coin in my fathers collection which has me stumped. It’s a Edward vii half penny but it’s kinda weird as it has no date. It doesn’t look at all like it’s been rubbed off. Secondly it has a lighthouse to left of Britannia and ship to her right. This design was halted in 1895 on the Queen Victoria version. Obviously Edward vii was between 1901-1910 so cant understand if this coin was a trial design or early proof. Can’t find any reference to it anywhere on the net. It also appears to be gold. Any info would be appreciated and if you think because of its rarity it’s likely to be valuable. I have attached some pics. Quote
Paddy Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Scale might clarify things, but that looks to me like Toy Money - made by the likes of Lauer for the education/entertainment of children. A lot of this stuff was made whilst Victoria was still alive, even though it depicted the future Edward VII and so the lack of date and the use of a Victoria style reverse would fit. Certainly not gold at that colour - probably brass. Post the diameter if you can. 1 Quote
Peckris 2 Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I agree, and thought that even before I saw your reply. Quote
Sword Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 The designs look too crude to be a trial (or proof) in my view. Some of the titles of the King are missing. FID DEF, IND IMP will need to be on the observe or reverse. Hence, I too think it is imitation money. Quote
