Just been sent these pictures- no size or composition info yet.

1943? Soviet? Head of Lenin? The '9' looks Russian to me....

Yes, same coin,  I thing the pics were taken at different angles.

I've been told this morning it's exactly an inch across.

Although I don't know anything about Soviet coins, I am inclined to think it is not Lenin. 

I find it hard to believe that Soviet coins would bear a portrait of Lenin in 1943. Surely it would not have been PC to have a soviet leader on a coin like the Tsars before. The CCCP emblem would be much more appropriate. E.g.

You know, I was mulling that over too, but then this is so crude i can't see any 'State' involvement.

Perhaps it's a crude token of some sort, but the numerals do look Eastern Bloc.....

Perhaps. I admit Lenin was the first thing to come to mind.
