bhx7 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Hi Folks Been trying to find a reference for this coin for a while. I believe it is Valentinian, which I am not sure. It has Victory holding a wreath with OF to left field and II to right. The exergue is the mintmark CONST. I have looked at all the RIC pages online, at least the ones I know about, and still haven't been able to find a reference to it. Thanks Quote
bhx7 Posted July 2, 2018 Author Posted July 2, 2018 Been on there Rob, unfortunately can't seem to find a match, unless I have missed something. Quote

Unwilling Numismatist Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Or here http://artemis.austincollege.edu/acad/cml/rcape/vcrc/search/index.asp Looks like a haircut from about 320-380 which should leave about 15 possible candidates 1 Quote
Peckris Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Maybe it's my imagination, but I feel I can make out part of '..ALENTIN..' so you may be right. 1 Quote
bhx7 Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) Thanks guys. Think I have narrowed it down to a variant of RIC IX Arles 9a. Still haven't found or seen another example of the coin. Obv: VALENTINI-ANVS PF AVG - pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right This is were it changes a bit: Rev: SECVRITA-S REIPVBLICAE -Victory advancing holding wreath and palm - OF in left Field, II in right - CONST (mintmark) in exergue The spacing of the last S in SECVRITAS after the wreath is not usual. I have also seen numerous single I's and III's in right field but none with II, other than the ones of Valens. Edited July 3, 2018 by bhx7 Quote
Peckris Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 OF II on the reverse + CONST = the Arles Mint. This appears to have the same obverse: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAC-Valentinian-I-364-375-E-Follis-Siscia-364-367-V497-/292348246153 Here's your reverse (different mint): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Valentinian-I-364-375-AD-AE3-SECURITAS-REIPUBLICAE-Thessalonica/113109889702?hash=item1a55dff2a6:g:augAAOSwLS5bNAeS 1 Quote
