Gaz T Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 The big one really is a George III sixpence, any ideas on the inscription meaning? I've put a sixpence next to it just for comparison of size. Not sure if its a love token or a Georgian game of some kind as its been inscribed. I have no idea how someone squashed this but you can still see the inscriptions around the coin. Quote

Surely the forces would create an elongated shape, as per hand-rolled pennies that you can make at museums, etc, nowadays? The force would need to be downward, wouldn't it? But how that might happen without splitting the flan eludes me. Heat maybe? I'm baffled! ? Quote

Something not quite right! Perfectly round garter, too! Quote
Rob Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 You are right, I didn't give it much thought. The largest thing with a garter reverse is a halfcrown, but the legend looks good for a 6d or 1/- with BRITT REX. Is it silver and what is the weight? Quote

Rob Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Yes, but it's huge. It is bigger than a crown based on the size of a sixpence. Quote

It's not the cookies, it's the forum software. I belong to another one which uses the same software - if you quote a post then back out without posting, the next post you make puts the same quote in and there's no way to get rid of it, except to delete its contents. Mildly infuriating. Quote

Coinery Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 The lions are I'd suggest concave, given their toning, ruling out this being a flattened coin! Some kind of coin or token/medal has been smashed or squeezed onto a disc of some kind, my dear Watson! Quote
