dppepperpot Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Hi , thought I'd share this William & Mary tin halfpenny, I Found metal detecting a couple of years ago. Has 1691 in ex and 1692 on edge. Also has Maltese crosses and the Latin inscription. Thanks for looking. 1 Quote
Rob Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 What soil was it in? The condition is very good for a dug piece of tin. The surfaces don't appear to have too much corrosion, no serious tin pest, so the temperature must have been kept relatively high and the conditions anaerobic. Quote
Michael-Roo Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 (edited) Wow. What are the odds. Lucky find! Edited August 7, 2017 by Michael-Roo Quote

dppepperpot Posted August 7, 2017 Author Posted August 7, 2017 Hi, soil was very damp next to a stream. The coin has deteriorated a little. Strange thing was I went back to the same site a year later and not ten feet away I Found a James 2nd tin farthing!! Not very good condition though. Quote
Rob Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 They aren't that difficult to find, though specific varieties are usually rare. James II halfpennies are a lot scarcer. Quote

I don't have any James halfpence though, just three of his tin farthings. My 'Wow' comment was with regard to it being a 91/92, which is very rare indeed, and how lucky DP was to find one while mettle detecting (Sorry Rob, couldn't resist ). 1 Quote
